Guess I should have posted here first rather than start my own thread, but yea, today Dec 26th is day 1 for me on my journey to get back in shape.  I need to loose weight and build muscle mass with the handicap of being in my late 50's now.

I intend to do mostly resistence exercise for which the fitbit isn't automatic, but it does provide a method of tracking.  I will also strive for my 10k steps each day.  I find I typicall will do 2-4k in normal business and on travel day with walking through airports I can hit 5 and above.  Doing 10k will in essence more than double my typical energy output.

I'm torn between going for weight loss or building muscle mass.  I think I've resolved to do the weight loss initiall to shed the first 15 lbs, then slow or stop loss while I build muscle mass.  Then when I go for the last 25 lbs, it should be easier.  One hopes anyway!

Anyway, good to be here.  Looking to give and get encouragement and help us all to learn to celebrate our successes and not dwell on the failures.  Confuses says: fall down 7 times, get up 8.

Hi all

I am a long time fitbit user... I have a one now...Waiting on the HR versions.   I have lost almost 100lbs a few years ago, but sadly because of my poor decisions I have put much back on.   But I am once again back on track.   I am a walker (fast) due to knee issues.  I have done 6 half marathons.  but today I am starting with 1 step, along the journey again.  so feel free to add me if you like.   I am a big beleiver in social media for accountablility and success. Health and fitness is important but I am not one of those who forgets about everything else. I also live life and enjoy it.   That is the main reason for health and fitness.  Keep stepping guys and gals .  We got this

Got my Flex for Christmas and have been watching my steps.  I use My Fitness Pal to track calories.  Can anyone recommend a heart monitor that I can get to sync with this?  My understanding is it doesn't monitor heart rate and I want to make sure I don't go over target.  Thanks Smiley Happy

I am new here also.  My husband bought me the fitbit charge for Christmas.  I have it all set up now and synced to my iphone and tablet.

It looks like a great fitness tool.  Only issue I think I will have is how to track my calories burned from my workouts.  I do Beach Body DVD programs and not sure if I can track through my fitbit.  Anyone know if this is so or not? I do see I can track excersize but not sure how accurate of a calories burned that will show.  So any insight to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

I got my fitbit for Christmas. Been wanting one for a year now. Now I have one, not 100% sure of it. Scared about the high number of calories earned it gave me on my first day. When I didn't do much

Hi angie
I have a polar watch & heart rate monitor ... So when I exercise (like rpm or pump) I use that to track my Calories burnt & then put it it my fitness pal & it's sync'd York Fitbit 🙂
Long way to do it I know but it works for me
Cheers
