Just got the fitbit flex and am wondering about biking.  I ride about 30 miles a day on a recumbent, will it track my progress?

It tracks that you are active, but if you really want to capture your biking, then log it under activities.

I got the flex just the other day.  I could really enjoy this thing however there are a few things that are begging me I wish fitbit could fine tune.

I didn't know my smart phone wasn't compatible. So I have no way of going on a dashboard and view my progress or when I can eat again.  I don't get in from work til after midnight to synch it and it's already on a new day by that point. I can't afford a new phone that will synch with it.

I also don't like the fact you can't see the actual step count on here. You can see the week total but you have to go look on a graph to view your steps instead of a number count.  Am I missing something here?  Would the force be better. Things can be fine tuned with this.

I also have a recumbent bike. You can manually add the session, as was suggested. Or you can place the FitBit at your ankle to capture the "steps."

Hi @twilightbloom
The Force may better fit your needs. It may still not be compatible with your smart phone but the Force will show your steps, distance, active minutes, stairs, calories burned and time, right at your wrist. The Force, a well as the Flex, both store multiple days worth of data, so if you do not get to your computer to sync until after midnight, it will still capture your data. Hope this helps!

Hi Carol, It registers steps.  I don't have to manually enter. What my confusion is trying view steps on the dashboard.  You can't view the number.  As in you can't see you did 25 steps rather you see it on a graph. And than it's added to weekly steps. I want to see a number on the site not on a graph.

I absolutely love my Fitbit One - "Mr. Bit" as I call him - have walked 4,000 miles last year and 40 pounds of weight lost!

Normal dashboard? Beta dashboard?  I just now found your response!  I went to respond and your response disappears.... I'm so old I cannot remember everything you said...  it would be nice if your response was still in front of me to help those of us with dementia.  The same thing happens with the messages to friends, they respond to a question I posed hours ago and I can't remember or find the question I asked.  I'm going to have to write it all down on pen and paper to have a copy but then what's the point of saving the tree by using this forum????   🙂  No.... not a user friendly site.....  lol  I'm still lost and I've been here since 12/5   (sigh)  someone throw me  a lifeline, I may find your response next month!

OMG....Rich.... your response was UNDER me!!!  now where are those messages?  LMHO

Sooner or later I will get this, I thought I was answering Rich, so my response make no sense whatsoever!

The person who asked about WWer's:  I found the diary sheet here on fitbit rather, well, poor, so I went in search of another.  I joined My Fitness Pal and it "connects" with this site, which is really rather cool.  At MFP I searched for weightwatchers and apparently there is a way to add a "diary/journal/tracker" that counts points to your webpage and at MFP they tell you how (just search with the term WWer).  If someone prefers Atkins, MFP will also connect you to the Atkins community.  I use MFP to track my food, and Fitbit to track my exercise, with no charge or cost to me.  WWer's charged me for this service.  Pretty cool.  WWer's is based upon support and the support is available both in the Fitbit community and at MFP..... if I can only learn the ins/outs of the communities!  LMHO

@Pixianna  did you install the Fitbit Connect software on your computer?  You need to have it installed on your computer and have the USB dongle installed in order to your Fitbit to transfer the data through your computer.  If it is installed you will see a black icon with a diamond in the middle of it in the bottom right task bar on your Windows PC.  If it's not installed, you can download it from her:  http://www.fitbit.com/setup

As for your phone, which phone are you trying to sync to?  I found that several friends who had Iphone 4's installed the Iphone app and discovered that it was not supported on their phone, as they needed to have an Iphone 4S.  Here is a link to the list of supported devices: http://www.fitbit.com/devices

I hope this helps.

Hi, I'm Maddie, I'm from England and new to all of this.

I've just got a Fitbit One and am really pleased with it so far.  I had a Fitbug a few years ago but this is so much better.  I love that it logs how often I've walked up stairs (and even found myself deliberately walking up and down the stairs earlier just so that I could beat yesterday's total!!)

I'm really hoping that the Fitbit and these forums help motivate me into becoming more active and losing weight.  If anyone would like to add me as a friend, please do, as I think having a few friends on here will help motivate me more.

I'm brand new as well, trying to get it up and running so I can use it during my spin class tomorrow. I'm a little confused with how to use the weight loss wanted and calories burned? Also, is there a better place to put the Zip for different exercises, ie: spinning, pilates, yoga, weight training, ? Thanks!

I'm not "brand new", but I also got my Fitbit One from "Santa".  I just started roaming the halls of the forum in the last few days.  After a few initials fits & starts with my One, I think I've finally got the hang of the program.  Discovering that manually entering activity data will overwrite the info downloaded from the Ftbit helped with confusion over high caloric burn rates on the screen of my One.

Keep in mind that the One (and, I assume the other monitors) may err in step and floor counts due to environmental factors.  In my case, as a truck driver the Fitbit counted the jolts from the highway as steps and changes in elevation as "floors".  I have actually had my One give me credit for over 6000 steps and climbing 67 floors during a day when I drove 9+ hrs!

Not to worry, though.  Floors don't impact the calculation for calories burned and inputting your activity counters any errors by default.
