I've noticed my ONE batter is now lasting less than a week. Could frequent display via bluetooth and/or sleep monitoring via the app on my smartphone be causing this, or is my device just getting old?

Hello @garylindsey,
I don't believe that syncing frequently will have that much of an impact on the battery life. However, I'm pretty sure that leaving the Fitbit App running and your Fitbit connected will drain it quickly. I accidentally left it that way and it drained the battery in one day.
That said, you don't need to enable sleep mode with the app. Just press and hold the button until you see the stop watch to go to bed, repeat when getting out of bed, and sync. It should create a sleep log.
I hope this helps.
