I recently bought anew iPad and tried to join Fitbit.com but was told my email address was attached to another account . This maybe because I started to join on my old iPad and then realised my old device wouldn't sync. Deleted the app on old device but now can't progress because Fitbit won't accept this address which is my only one. What do I do

It sounds like you might be trying to create a fitbit account when you don't need to. Once you have created an account on one device you don't need to create again on another device.
If you can remember the password you used on the first attempt at joining then you can just log on to that email on your new iPad.
If you can't remember the password there is a password reminder option on the login page.
