I just received my FitBit One today and began learning more about it. I soon discovered that the One must be worn on my non-dominant wrist. This is a big disappointment for me. The main reason I bought the One is for sleep tracking, and it was not immediately obvious from what I read about it before I bought it that wearing a wrist band was necessary for sleep tracking. Since I am very uncomfortable with anything on my wrists while sleeping, this defeats the reason for why I bought the One.
I searched the fitbit community to see if the One will still work if clipped to sleep clothes. I found several people asking the same question. The answers stressed the importance of using the wrist band. The fitbit community moderators and others provided pleasantly worded responses, but those answers lack depth of information, so for me the answers have low value. Therefore, I have two questions:
1) My guess is the One needs the amplified movement of the the arms to accurately determine a person's sleep status. If my guess is correct, this implies that the One may not detect sufficient movement to estimate "sleeping" if it is clipped onto a bedtime T-shirt or PJ top. Although, this seems contrary to other community posts I found that showed a One will incorrectly register physical activity if it is placed on a table with something causing small vibrations such as a fan. I am not sure how to reconcile these two conditions and would appreciate one of the FitBit support people addressing this with some detail.
2) I also discovered that the One sleep settings have a "sensitive" option. So that makes me wonder if setting the One to sensitive will result in meaningful sleep tracking data if wearing the One clipped on a T-shirt. Does this seem like a reasonable way to get meaningful sleep tracking data without a wrist band?
Thanks

For what it's worth it may be akward wearing it on your arm, but after a couple days you won't even notice it on.

LocoMutant,
Your comment is similar to the responses I saw on the other related threads. I understand your perspective. However, I want technology to make my life simpler when possible, not add to the motions I need to go through to accomplish my goals. Therefore, I asked my questions in this thread because if the fitbit One can accurately track my sleep while clipped to my T-shirt, then that is much simpler than needing to use a wrist band, and I would also avoid the mild annoyance of having something on my wrist.
