Fitbit app requesting location be on before syncing

I downloaded the app update and now I can no longer sunc with Bluetooth only. When I turn on Bluetooth it says location must be turned on. What has changed? I don't want location to be on to sync. How do I fix it so it will sync as it did before with only Bluetooth on and not require
location plus Bluetooth?

Have a look at the following thread where one of the moderators explains that this is related to a change Google made with the introduction of Android 6
