should my phone step count and Fitbit alto step count combine when synced? 

My phone Fitbit app showed a step count of 12,000 and my Fitbit alto showed 6000 however when synced the app then only showed the steps counted by my Fitbit Alto and the total on the dashboard reduced to 6000? Surely this is an error?

I do not understand. Are you using the one and also an app on your phone to count steps?

 

Use one or the other not both

in my job I'm on my feet all day and push a trolley with my arms out in front of me and for some reason my alto Fitbit doesn't seem to count my steps accurately whilst my phone which is in my pocket does. I had hoped they would sync and talk to each other to take the highest step count for each day?
