I logged my activity with time and distance to the dash board. This shows up on my total steps for the day and week but is not added to my total for friends and community. Is there a way to get these totals to match?

No, I'm afraid not. Manually logged steps do not count towards challenges, the friends tile or badges. Presumably this is to deter people that may cheat but is unfortunate for those of us who simply forget to wear the fitbit.
