New Fitbit recorded steps before I opened the box

I just recieved my fitbit one and while I finished applying the fitbit app onto my phone, I noticed that there are steps recorded 7 days before I even recieved my fitbit.  Is there a way I can delete them, and why is there steps already recorded?  It wasn't charged when I opened the box, so after I charged it full I synced the device.  Is there any explanation?

Hi @Ladyzel -- I tried to look at your stats but they are private.  Usually what you see for prior day stats when you set up a new fitbit account is the calories based on your BMR (the calories you burn just by being alive).  If you do see actual steps I'm guessing it is not that many and may represent steps from transit to the store.  If you did get any steps there is no real reason to try and delete them as they will be swamped by your real stats in a couple of days.  But if you want you can enter a "driving activity" to overwrite them.

The 7 day period has to do with the length of time that the One (and all fitbits, I think) stores detailed data between syncs.  What happens when you sync is that fitbit looks back to your last sync up to seven days (for detailed minute by minute data -- 30 days for daily summary data) and adds any info your tracker recorded to your account -- so it may add a few steps that were picked up in transit duing that time period.  The BMR data, which is based on the height, weight, sex and age you put in when you set up the account, is just plugged in as kind of an artifact for the prior 7 days (because there was no information for the height, weight, sex and age fields when you set up your account).

None of this is worth worring about.  Enjoy your One.  It will tell you a lot about your daily habits and it will help you change them for the better!  Cheers.
