So the customer support helps finding lost fitbits?

Hello,

1) I noticed that people tend to lose the Ones and the Zips. But I also notice some people do return found trackers. I am curious if I buy one of these and if I lose it, what will be the chance to find it. I am in Toronto, Canada.

2) And curious - what is the reason to lose your tracker - is the entire clip loose or the tracker falls off the clip (so you still have the clip but tracker is no longer there)?

These are issues which hope the manufacturer is addressing already, because I don't plan to give $120 every month, if I get one of these. I am still researching and honestly I am a Garmin fan, the reason why I would probably go with Fitbit is the community and also Garmin don't have a clip tracker, while I am not into bracelets really.

Thanks

Hello @StrayFeral,

Welcome to the community!

Keep in mind that folks typically post here on the forum when they're encountering problems.  So when you take into account the sheer number of people that have Ones and Zips, I think only a very small fraction of them have problems losing them.  My main Fitbit is a One and I have yet to lose it in over three years.

That said, I think the vast majority of folks end up misplacing it when they change garments rather than having it come off a garment (either slipping off the clip or having the clip slip off the garment).  I am far too mindful about my steps and move it from garment to garment as I change clothes.

So what you'll want to do is to:

  • Minimize the likelihood of losing it.
  • If you do lose it, maximize the likelihood of getting it returned.

Minimize the likelihood of losing it

While I've never had a clip break and come lose.  I have had instances where it wears and eventually needs to be replaced.  The plastic tip came off; it was still secure and usable as a clip but had exposed metal that may poke at your skin.  I still use the original style (replacement) clip when I wear it at the gym.  I don't worry about it coming lose.

I do wear it differently when I'm at work.  For years I carried a pocket watch and prefer carrying that way...  tethered to a watch fob, like this:

shapeways-clip.jpg

I found the above clip at shapeways and have been wearing mine this way for over a year now.

Keep in mind that there are several ways to wear it, including in your bra (for women) and in your pocket.  You don't necessarily need to use the clip.

If you do lose it, maximize the likelihood of getting it returned

Sadly, save for the greeting, there is nothing identifying the Fitbit itself to the owner.  I believe that the vast majority of folks who find one would return it if they knew who it belonged to, so to that end...

Label your Fitbit.  I know that this is simple, but it works.  I labeled all of mine (and my friends') Fitbits and have had four happy returns, it looks like this:

fitbit-label.jpg

I used a Brother p-touch labeler.  Mine is a fancy one with custom fonts and stuff, but a basic one will get the job done.

That said, I've also entered a couple feature requests that will help folks return it if you should happen to lose it.  You can click on each link and read their description and vote if you agree:

I hope this helps.
