I seem to have to manually log my daily walk (>5kms so about 7500 or more steps) even though I try to set my One to log automatically - it counts the steps but doesn't update the daily exercise goal. Today it suddenly "found" an additional 2500 or so steps - since I got up, got dressed and went out for my usual walk this is rubbish. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

Ok. Haven't used my One for a while so I checked it out this morning. Looks like activities started and stopped on the One (this is called "multisport or exercise mode") do not show up on the fitbit app on your phone (or update the weekly exercise metric). Instead, they only show up on the web application. Initially they show up as an "activity record" like this:
"Activity Record" from One
But you can rename it to whatever it really was (walk, run, weights, etc). Here, I renamed it "Walk"
Activity record from One renamed as Walk
This gives you all the information you need about your walk, but it does not update the weekly exercise metric, or let you see the activity on your phone.

@MaryJane123 - If you push the button on your One at the beginning and end of your walk it will create an exercise record (it will say "workout"). That should update your daily exercise metric.

Yes, I do that although I don't think it says workout - just vibrates briefly. But thanks anyway.

Although starting and stopping the activity on your One does not appear to update the weekly exercise metric on your phone, you can start a gps activity on the phone app (called "mobilerun") that will record the distance and a nifty gps map of what you did, and that will update the weekly activity metric. So long as you have your One with you, it will record the steps for the activity. Here is a couple screen shots from a walk I just finished.
