Hi, unfortunately I have had to return my One for exchange as the counting was extremley dodgy. I am wondering if it is possible to wipe the steps and previous data from my account, and start fresh with my new pedometer.

No there is not. You can open a new account and start over if that's what you want. Need a different Email to do so.
Then you could contact Fitbit to delete your old account
