fitbit one overstating flights of stairs

Several days ago my fitbit one would record flights of stairs before I was even close to one.  When I did have 3 flights it was showing 12+ .  Now I don't believe any thing it's recording.  I just got my weekly report and I've recorded 10,000 steps over last week .... this is totally wrong.

I've been using this since May.

Suggestions ?????

First thing to try when a fitbit misbehaves is a restart using the following procedure:

It does no harm and can sort out all sorts of issues. You might need to give it a few tries though as it's known to not always work.
