Accuracy of Charge 3 and cycling?

Hi all,

I've not yet used my charge 3 when it comes to cycling but am planning to very soon. I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback as to how accurate the charge 3 converts cycling into steps?

Currently my exercise revolves around a lot of walking and home work outs and I feel the charge 3 relatively accurately captures my daily steps, such that when it says I've 10,000 steps I'm pretty confident that that is the case.

I'm worried though that due to change in the way I commute to work, I'll be replacing some walking with cycling and I may no longer accurately see how many steps (or the equivalent of) I'm doing.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight on this or if there are any tips on how to make the Charge 3 record cycling more accurately. I'm a bit worried that my cycle route is a bit bumpy and the watch is going to crank up the steps.

Many thanks in advance !

Hi @blackrose91 You are sounding a bit confused here - or at least you are confusing me! Charge 3 records cycling pretty accurately from my experience, but cycling is NOT a step based activity so theoretically you should get no steps at all for the activity. However the tracker will feel some of the bumps in the road and assume they are steps so will record some steps. But this is NOT conversion of cycling to steps - it is just accidental adding of steps. Fitbit does not convert non step based activities to numbers of steps.

Hi @NellyG

Thanks for replying! Based on previous threads I had read on the forums I had assumed that the fitbit would convert non step activities into the equivalent steps.

I guess for me personally, if I'm changing from walking somewhere to cycling somewhere, whilst they are 2 different things it would be good to know the equivalent steps, otherwise my fitbit will probably never show I've hit my daily step goal despite being active.

I'm guessing there is no way around this? I really wish this was a feature

I do understand what you are saying. Maybe if you look at the active minuets it would make you feel better, as cycling will definitely be seen as active minutes!
