I just swapped out my Charge 3 for a 4 and it is now only giving me 12 "zone minutes" for my 45 minute fast walk. The 1st 2 days it worked and showed about 35 minutes for a 45 minutes walk like it has for years. Maybe I ran an update and it has changed from active to zone? It has also erased my active history. Can I change this setting back to active minutes? This zone minute feature is highly unmotivating.

Due to the new technology on the Charge 4 it will record active zone minutes instead of active minutes, that the Charge 3 recognized.

So if I go back to the 3 it will work as before with the active minutes feature?

You are right. Depending on the device you are using you'll see active minutes or active zone minutes.
