Did you mean:

Are the green lights bad for you?

I've just got mt Fitbit Charge2 and realised the green lights are constantly on. I had a different Fitbit before that didn't have this feature.

Could this constant light be bad for you? Can you turn them off? I presume it's to monitor heart rate but does it do anything else?

i'd appreciate your thoughts.

I wasn't able to identify who you were replying to exactly since you
replied to my message (I think) but mentioned the other user's name too.

Without proper tagging of a member we really can not tell who @konijntje is referring to. Maybe they can edit their post.

“Should have” shown up before you started wearing a fitbit.

Did you know visible light allergies are so rare that not only have doctors forgotten most everything they learned about them by the time they begin practicing medicine, that they are also so rare that symptoms are not well documented?

I spent 25 years of my life in excruciating pain, having doctors tell me it was all in my head, before finally being diagnosed with my visible light allergy.

You have way too much confidence in doctors.  It took them 35 years to diagnose me with something I was born with.

And yes, I wore my fitbit for several years before finding this out. The tiny bit of extra discomfort caused by the green light wasn’t even noticeable over the agony I was in.  It wasn’t until I started avoiding visible light touching my skin that I figured out the fitbit was doing something.  My doctors didn’t even realize EPP reactivity extended into the green spectrum until I dug up a medical journal that proved it.

To be honest I don't know if I can believe you or not, so I won't do
either.

I honestly don't know how ALL the exotic disease affect solely the Fitbit
users.

Have you tried not using a line of products that don't affect 99 percent of
its users after you found out it affected you?

What are you people exactly advocating against? Most of us don't have any
issues. This is the only technology available for now, while other non LED
based are probably in development . It's safe for the majority. Fitbit
can't make something special for you nor deny you the right to purchase
their products.

This whole discussion passed the relevancy point a long time ago, like in
the 1st page.

I'm tired of arguing on the internet, now for real. Believe anything you
want to believe, just let your kids do their choices too. Therefore
Fitbit's Green LEDs are evil and all that stuff and they should be grateful
and sorry at the same time to you for buying their product by yourselves.

sorry I was replying to Konijintje

however I believe you didn't watch that youtube video  .... who is talking isn t dr Mercola it s Dr. Alexander Wunsch

I thought it was a bit OTT reporting you for being aggressive or whatever  s/he said ...

I think we can say whatever we like on this forum against Fitbit...

Dear Konijntje ...feel free to report me for telling you to get a life,   I am almost praying for my Fitbit Charge 3 to break so I have an excuse to buy some other brands  tracker ...

Also literature suggests that there is a very strong correlation between Fitbit green lights and 99% of alien related abduction cases worldwide.... GREEN = either Aliens or IRELAND...  or at a lower statistical incidence ... both... that's what you have to watch out for guys

After wearing the Fitbit HR Inspire for a couple of weeks I noticed a red blister appeared that was itchy where the light of the fitbit flashes. I took it off until my red bump healed. I put it on my right wrist same thing happened. I then started wearing the fitbit only during the day on healed skin, & it happened again, only this time it happened quicker than the first time and the bump is bigger and very itchy and sore. I am returning this product as I am convinced this is harmful to me. Maybe other people are not as sensitive as me, but i have never had a reaction like this with my normal watch, which is what i will be going back to. New technology, new risks. new consequences that only time will tell how they affect us.

I also bought it for $179 a month ago, and now its selling at $99. Not happy, sorry.

you better keep your receipt cause they are full of trouble... I had mine replaced cause it was giving a lot of trouble...a pure disaster, very unreliable and inaccurate machines, it doesn't pick up when I sleep during the day (I sleep at work...) an I mean deep sleep where I woke up myself snoring or dreaming for a few hours and Charge 3 picks up a big NOTHING... Syncing has been a big issue from day one... after changing phone I realized that it wasn't the phone's fault but this crap of a Fitbit Charge 3, notifications...another big issue and also to sync you need to switch on your GPS on your phone...WTH is that about? is that Google wanting to know exactly where you are?   about the lights as far as I know and as far as I can understand from a bit of research I have done around the web LED are not safe...said so I only had very bad skin irritations after wearing the fitbit (and I still get it from time to time) maybe because the plastic straps don t allow the skin to wear and trap moisture if not kept a bi loose during the night... I will not buy any other fitbit products for many years i'd say...

Thank you Freddy for sharing your experience, it only confirms what I was suspicious of...

I was the same as you in regards to the fitbit not picking up my sleep during the day, but I let it slide even though was disappointed...

I also tried wearing it very loose and it didn't help either.

I hope it will be ok to return, I do have the receipt luckily... 🙂

Having tried for a couple of monts to convince people it's either the band or the charging rods, I am going to ask you the same thing: please put a piece of tape on the charging rods on the back of the device without covering the leds and wear it on a hand that is healed. And see if the burns show up again.

Best Answer

Yes that has to be it. My red marks and burning is exactly where the charging rods are. I’ve had this Fitbit since yesterday and will have to return it. That’s too bad as I was enjoying it a lot. Poor design.

Green lighting doesn't harm the human eye in any way. But you may get tired of the green color and want to change something. When I was younger, I installed a night light in a green LED strip, which turned on when the main lamp in my bedroom was turned off. I put the same LED in the bathroom, but it was blue there. I got tired of the green night light too quickly since I fell asleep late at night. And I noticed something interesting. I don't get tired of the blue color. I recently bought a white flagpole light bulb here https://www.amazon.com/Flagpole-Energy-Battery-Illumunation-Vont/dp/B00YBDA7DC/ and added another blue shade there. I like the way my yard looks now.

I have a red spot under the green light as well. It started small and is growing.  Just turned it off. Will see if that makes a difference and it gets smaller
