Battery leakage / corrosion around LEDs

Had my Charge HR since I got it as a gift last August. Worn it fairly constantly during that time. On Friday some solid material that looks like corroded battery or something appeared around the panel where the LEDs are on the inside of the strap. I emailed Fitbit support but have heard nothing. Anyone else seen anything like this?

The device still seems to work but is it dangerous to wear it like this?
