Bike distance not correct

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,
I recently started biking to work.  The route I take to go to work shows as 1.8 miles from my home via Google Maps. I take the same route every day. And the way home is 1.6 miles. I'm getting a variety of distances and I'm not sure why.

I have a Charge 2 and I make sure that the location option is turned on in my phone (a new Samsung Galaxy S10e).  Any ideas?  This really is a bummer.  I have to stop for lights at times so maybe that's messing it up?  Though it really shouldn't as it's based on location.

Thanks,

Dawn

Hello @graphixgurl welcome to our Community Forums! I'm glad to give you a hand with your concern and to know that Fitbit is part of your healthy lifestyle.

First, I'd like to appreciate the detailed information that was provided in your post. To better assist you, I'd like to know if your bike activity is being recorded directly from your Charge 2 exercises or if it's being recorded automatically using our SmartTrack feature? Also, let me share with you that the Samsung Galaxy S10e is still not a supported device with our Fitbit products and services, therefore, you may experience certain connection difficulties, that said, can you please let me know if you experience the same situation with a compatible mobile device too? Note that Fitbit is always working and testing new devices to add them to our list of compatible devices.

Even though your mobile device is not compatible, let take a look to our help articles: How accurate are Fitbit devices? and How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes.

I'll be here if you need anything else. Please keep me posted.

Hi Ricardo,

I'm activating the exercise directly from my Charge 2 right before I start my ride.

It doesn't appear to be a connection issue - just that the calculation is off.

Why isn't this Samsung supported?  I'm just curious.

As for testing it on a compatible device, that's simply not realistic as I can't buy another phone to test this and my phone is the only one I have.  I do have an iPad but apparently, it's not supported either. 😞

The first link you provided me with doesn't address the location/GPS/biking issue and the second doesn't really address my issue. The fitbit is recording the activity - just incorrectly.

Thanks,

Dawn

Thanks for your reply and update @graphixgurl I'm glad to continue helping you with this situation. My apologies for the delayed reply.

Thank you for taking in consideration the information that was previously posted. Let me share with you that because the Charge 2 use connected GPS, meaning that will use your mobile device GPS chip, due to this compatibility situation the calculation may experience certain difficulties. Not all the Samsung mobile devices are incompatible with our products and services, however, since your Samsung S10e was recently released, Fitbit is still working and testing it to ensure a fully compatibility.

Let give it a try to the troubleshooting steps that are specified on this specific post and let me know how it goes.

I'll be around. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi Ricardo,

I am not having a problem with GPS.  It's recording it fine. Below are a few of the screenshots.  It's simply not accurately counting distance.  I reviewed the thread you sent me to but as the fitbit appears to be connected to GPS by all accounts it is not relevant to my issue.  What can we do??

And for reference here's the true distance to and from work from my previous post:

The route I take to go to work shows as 1.8 miles from my home via Google Maps. I take the same route every day. And the way home is 1.6 miles.

As you can see from the distance markers it's not accurate.
