Can I gift my old Charge 2 (still functioning) without losing my data?

I just purchased a new Charge 3 to gain the ability to wear it while swimming. Also, to be honest because the heart rate tracking is not as accurate as it used to be. It is several years old.  Everything else still works fine on the Charge 2 and I was going to give it away.  The question is whether there is a way to separate data pre and post gift, so my data stays with me and the new owner can connect it to a new account and use it going forward.

Yes, you can certainly do that.

First thing is to do a final sync from old device to make sure all data on tracker gets to Fitbit database.  After that, all your data is in the Fitbit database stored under your account/email.  A new user will set up a new account/email and start anew with none of your data.

For you, after your final sync, assuming using phone app, still logged into your old account, click profile pic to get to Account page, then click old tracker 'Charge 2', then the trashcan icon at top right.  That will remove the Charge 2 from your account. As a double check, then go into bluetooth settings on your phone and make sure Charge to is not still paired.  If it is, then unpair it.

Then on the 'Account' page, do 'Set up a Device' and add the new tracker.  As long as you are in the same account, new data continues seamlessly with the old without regard to which tracker it came from.

And then a new user can set up the Charge 2 as a new device in a new account without affecting you or seeing your data.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
