The step counter on my fitbit 3 is not bright enough to see, if it was the same as the clock face there would be no problem, can it be done??

Did the straps fit your original Charge 3? No clue what to do other than
order new bands from eBay or Amazon. Sorry for the frustration.

Great news. That’s what I had to do. My replacement has been perfect.

Which is brighter, auto or normal?

I think they are the same brightness but auto would dim the display in dim
light. I have mine set to Normal.

I'm in my 60s and the brightness on my charge three is just not bright enough

Somehow the screen on my charge 3 has darkened to the point that I can no longer determine what is showing on the screen. It’s not completely black. In a very dark room/closet the Fitbit icon and faint light is barely visible, but not enough to see what is on the screen. I tried the various suggestions for a hard reboot to no avail. It still connects to the app but is useless on my wrist. Please help!

See my post. Can the brightness settings be changed from the app perhaps?

Best thing is to go to customer service and start a Chat. Depending on the
age of your Fitbit, they may decide to send you a new watch which is what
they did for me.

Would if I could but the screen is too dark to see - I wondered if there was a way to brighten if through the app, since that still works on my phone.

I don't know about other Fitbit devices but I bought 4 Charge 3 devices in April 2019, and three have different problems with the screen. The screen of the first one went completely dark although it was still syncing with the app on my phone. I called support and was offered to give me a replacement or 50% to buy another device (except Charge 4).
The second one first started with a small white line going across the screen, then three or four more lines, and then a bunch of them showed up to the point that it was impossible to read the text on the screen. I called support and got the same offer.
The third one has the brightness issue as described by others in this post. Today, I called support and was disappointed when I was offered a 40% off to buy a Versa Lite Mulberry and nothing else. Is Fitbit just shoving its least wanted/unwanted device to me as a compensation for my troubles? Not only it is exactly one model, a Versa Lite, but also in Mulberry color. I can't speak for other men but I certainly do not want to wear a vibrantly cute mulberry watch even if it was Rolex.
