Hey there @lnmred954, it's nice to have a new member in the Community! Welcome! Smiley Very Happy I agree with everything that my friend @JohnnyRow advised to you.

In regards to the voice cues, do the following:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the + icon.
  2. Tap Track Exercise, and then tap Tracking at the top of the screen.
  3. If you're using Android Marshmallow, make sure you grant the Fitbit app access to the requested features of your mobile device.
  4. Choose your activity, either Run, Walk, or Hike.
  5. If you want your phone to provide voice cues during your activity, tap Use voice cues to set the voice cues you want to hear, and the frequency of the cues.
  6. Tap Start. At any time during your activity, swipe left to see the GPS map.
  7. When you're done with your activity, tap the Pause button and then tap and hold the Finish button. An activity summary shows your steps, distance, active minutes, and calories burned as calculated by the sensors on your phone.

Now speaking of intervals, intervals are any exercise that alternates between intense bursts of activity followed by periods of lower intensity activity or rest. Adding intervals to your workouts can help you burn more calories and improve your aerobic capacity.

Before you start your workout, you can set the length of the intervals and the total number of rounds you want to complete. You can choose from these 3 ranges:

  • Move period: From 10 seconds up to 19 minutes, 59 seconds
  • Rest period: From 10 seconds up to 19 minutes, 59 seconds
  • Repeat (total number of rounds): 1 to 49 times

To set your intervals:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon m
  2. > your device image.
  3. Tap Exercise Shortcuts.
  4. Tap Interval Workout. If Interval Workout isn’t listed in the menu, you’ll need to add it to your exercise shortcuts
  5. Set your intervals.

Keep in mind the interval lengths and total number of rounds you set will remain as the default options until you change them. If you do the same workout often, you don’t need to set the intervals each time.

You can use built-in or "connected" GPS to capture additional workout stats including route, distance, and pace. For more information about using connected GPS during your workouts, see How do I use exercise apps and modes on my Fitbit device?

You also asked about using your phone and your tracker at the same time in order to track your activities. So, working with the GPS sensors in your phone, MobileRun calculates distance, elevation, and pace for your walk, run, or hike. When the activity is done and you sync your tracker, you'll find all the data and a GPS map of your route in your exercise history.

If you wear your tracker while using MobileRun, the steps, active minutes, and calories burned that you see on your Fitbit dashboard come from the tracker. Otherwise your phone is used to calculate this data. During the workout you can view your elapsed distance, time, and average pace as well as use the music controls in the Fitbit app. To user MobileRun, just follow the first steps I provided above for the voice cues and you're done. Smiley Very Happy

You have to start the run time from your phone. In the exercise tile, click the stopwatch icon at top right, then turn on voice cues.  Cues come through your phone.

Thanks so much! I just switched from Garmin, not used to this...I feel lost LOL

I used a run/walk program on the garmin, (8min run, 1 min walk) do you recommend choosing interval training instead of run on the fitbit

I myself have never used the interval option, but I think that is the only way you could get time notifications like that.

One more question...do I have to simultaneously choose the run on my fitbit AND the start on the stopwatch on my phone?

GM....a suggestion for software update. Ability to choose run, and set intervals for run/walk. Have notifications for time/distance and intervals come through the fitbit as vibrations. Of course phone needs to be with you, but once intervals are set, no need to use the phone to start/Stop the program. Do it at the wrist.
