Hi,
I can barely read my Fitbit Charge 3 display in a dark room. It’s got progressively worse to the point the screen is near enough black constantly. I’ve tried going via the settings App to change the screen brightness but it’s made no difference. Is there anything else I can do? None of the discussion so far seem to have provided an answer and mine is at the point I can’t even read it indoors!

Hi,
I hope the firmware update does make your fitbit work. I don't think I was given that as an option. My gut feeling is that something inside is breaking down- fair bit of technology in a little space. I like that you have the family fitbit connection happening, but you would want something safe, easy and reliable.

Bit of a bonus that you didn't have it fail out of warranty, and have to go through the drama of trying to get something fixed that was only 13 months old. Sad that a higher model has issues too. Feel a bit the same about limited number of chances to prove a company worthy of my loyalty. I have had good customer service, but I would be happier to not go down that road, and have something that lasts for at least 3 years.

I am glad they offered you a replacement, lucky you. Sorry you are having similar probs with the Charge 4 😞 These "minor" problems can become BIG problems when it happens over and over again, right?

I understand your reasoning, how many chances when the same probs crop up with different models? I found it very hard to read the watch face while outside. I guess I'll stick to my $20 SuperStore watch right now lol. The 35% discount I was offered is still too expensive to buy the same problems for a newer model. Sigh. Sad coz I really enjoyed the watch when it worked properly.

woohoo congrats to your dad who just started a fitness program, that is awesome! I got a FITBIT for at family member (at age 84) and ended up I had to buy her a regular watch coz she had too many problems trying to keep the screen functioning and not fading/black screen/blank screen/lines thru the numbers. She is not tech-savvy at all and it became a daily chore to sort out her Charge watch so she just threw it away one day in a fit of frustration. I spent more time trying to troubleshoot my Charge3 the last 6 months or so of ownership than I did using it.

I luckily had a shorter call. I don't even bother looking at mine now because I know I won't be able to see it unless I am inactive inside

Still running with the Charge 3- jinxed things by buying 3 replacement bands the week before it died.
They are great when they work, but when they start to play up you have to wonder. My current Charge 3 has a dull screen, and is now not syncing properly.
Pity that you have had so many issues. Can see why the family member threw it away- always frustrating when you don't know if it is the user or the device that is faulty.

I know this sounds crazy. But I know we had an issue with details in steps, calories, miles etc. Fitbit never fixed. It all turned out to be because they only didn’t fix because we were on Apple devices. All android devices still have the details that we don’t. I didn’t notice someone has an android user so I guess this issue hit everyone not just Apple devices.

I started on Apple but are now monitoring on Apple and Samsung. The Fitbit itself has the dull display, but now my Samsung has issues. After syncing it still showed no details for 5 days

This is how the apple looks. Notice no colors and you can't click on anything

I posted to this thread in March 2021 about my problems with the Charge 3 screen going black. Suddenly this week, I started receiving emails of posts to this thread and realized it was still active. Consider this an update with maybe a possible fix.
In my original post, I said I was going to try the Versa 3. And, I did. The display was brighter than my charge 3 ever was, but the haptic feedback was lousy. It's supposed to vibrate when I get a notification or alert but that rarely happens. When it does, it's random. Forget about reminders to move, if I get one a day I'm lucky. But, that's not why I wanted to post this update. I found myself actually needing the SPO2 data the Versa provided so I kept it. Before discarding the Charge 3, I did a factory reset to clear my personal data. When I did that, the brightness was restored. And, it stayed bright. Just guessing, but I suspect the memory where the settings and personal information was stored got corrupted somehow and resetting to factory reinitialized all the settings. I don't know whether that will work for anyone else, but if you've tried everything else it's one more thing to try as a last resort before you toss it. I don't know if you can reassociate your Charge 3 to the app and your account without losing your data. I transferred the Versa 3 to the account replacing the Charge 3 before doing the reset.and it kept everything. But, I don't know if you can do that when it's the same device. If you try it, please post here and let us know whether it worked for you.

How did you do the factory reset? I can't see anything on the screen is there a way to do it on the app?

Looks like you can do it in the app. Some good instructions online, so I will let you Google the best one. Basically go into settings, accounts, and reset from there.
