Can't see my watch in the SUN! WHY NOT??

I have never spent this much on a watch in my life, but the idea of tracking my exercise persuaded me.  But I can't see A THING ON THIS SCREEN WHILE OUTSIDE no matter what I try... my heart rate, the time, my steps or ANYTHING during the run!!  I feel like an idiot for spending money on a fitness tracker that's useless outside.  Why wasn't this TESTED before it was sold to the public??

Tje simple answer to why is because the lights on the tracker are not brighter than the sun.

Have you tried changing the brightness of the display? You may need to shield the sun.

Yes of course I have tried to shade my watch from the sun and I can see
nothing on my display until I get back inside. Even on cloudy days I can't
read my watch while outdoors.
I've tried Auto and normal brightness; nothing helps. I have to stop
running or biking to look at my phone just to see the time.
I realize there's nothing to do to fix this but please send this feedback
to people designing the next version.

I haven't even been able to change the brightness on my fitbit.  When I go to "settings" all I get is "installed" and I don't get any further than that. Have never been able to see the clock outside  and now I can hardly see it inside.

The settings for brightness m, according to the user manual, will be found on the Charge 4
