I started my weight loss journey on Jan 1. I've lost 6 lbs since then. I went into "edit goal", and changed my weight loss date to Jan 29th. Now it showing I haven't lost any weight. I cannot change it back. I can look through the weekly charts and line graph to see my stats, but I can't change the date back to Jan 1st.

I don't believe this will work. It has nothing to do with cache. It is a fundemental programming flaw and needs fixing. And not by you. We shouldn't have to reboot. The data isn't 'stuck' it just isn't doing what we want it to. It's as though the programmers think diets always start TODAY. Actually, we might want to set a retrospective start date and it really doesn't seem to like that. The other flaw it, when you set the date, it doesn't know what your weight was on that date and you have to put it in manually - which is weird as it is in the history - any why would you override it with a manual date - unless it is day one and you have no history !! Basic developmental errors.

My problem changing the start date just gets worse and worse. Instead of using my iPhone I've gone on my Mac computer and deleted the weight goal (i didn't see this option on my phone App). But again, it will not let me put in a historic past date - so now great, my start date is reset to today and I have lost zero weight instead of the 4kg loss i want to see since 11 Oct 18 - why the hell can't I get this devise to do what I want it to do, rather than what some developer thinks I'll want to do. PLEASE PLEASE GET THIS FIXED - IT IS DRIVING ME MAD!! And I don't believe there is a solution, I have spent ages on it already and nothing works.

In the App I just went it - under 'more' like you said - you can set a new weight goal. You can put the weight you want to be etc, but there is no date option - so it assumes your want to start today. But I don't want to start my diet today. I started 11 Oct and have lost 4kg since them. But it won't let me go back to when my diet began. Why not? Now I have lost zero. Great. The computer version has fewer options. The phone version DOES have a date field - but it ignores retrospective dates - so why it's there I don't know. Any explanations????

I did this today, edited the date to 1/22 and although on the web it shows, it is not populating the app or the watch device Charge 3
i have done the Sync on the app and nothing changes.

I did exactly this. But, it doesn’t change on the app

it works under edit...you have to hit the arrow to take you to the screen and put in the start date with the weight of that day and then edit the weight for today. So 2 steps to do
make sure you follow the screen shots and pay attention to the highlighted red squares around what to change and read ALL the text on the page and it will make sense. It took me about an hour and multiple tries.

I just spent almost 2 hours trying everything suggested in the forums and nothing worked. On the food plan on my PC, I entered the new start date and the starting weight. It would keep the weight I entered but it either didn't change the date (most common) or produced some random date which was just as impossible to change. Then I changed the start weight from 192 pounds to 191.99 pounds and the system rounded up. Finally.
Spoke too soon. It's changed to another date.

has the app changed in the last few months? I am unable to click the edit button on that page. If I go back to the date I want to change there is no data.

Following the instructions stated here eventually worked for me. At first, it seemed not to work and I was as frustrated as everybody else. But then, after adjusting as instructed on the website, I logged out of the Fitbit app on my phone, restarted it, and then opened the app and logged back in. Viola, my weight loss is now correctly reflected from my desired start date.

Great that this worked thank you! (But from a UI/UX perspective, this setting really isn't in the right place.)

Thank you, this was helpful (even though, of course, the website doesn't quite look like the pictures anymore but I managed to figure it out and find the setting) but just a simple question, why is this SIMPLE setting (Goal Start Date) SO DIFFICULT to find and SO TUCKED AWAY?? Please make it EASILY findable on both the App and the website. How about a SIMPLE new section under ACCOUNT: "CURRENT GOAL" 1. START DATE 2. STARTING WEIGHT 3. DESIRED WEIGHT 4. DESIRED DURATION (FAST - NORMAL - SLOW (Choose one and it will display an estimated end-date)). Thank you for considering this.

okay so I had to re read Alvarados post again so first step change your start weight ( leave your goal weight alone as you should have already had that set up) then click on the start weight date and then get out of the account by clicking the top left arrow.. that FINALLY WORKED FOR ME! the trick was to change your start weight and your start date.

Yes I found the answer below (or above, depending where this shows up) though it was still not at all very straightforward. And I'm a fricking Tech guy!!
In general, FitBit, I can't believe how CONVOLUTED you make it to modify this EXTREMELY REQUESTED setting. Do you guys not have Product Owners who read these boards?????
It shouldn't take an act of God and several Google searche and wasted minutes and then some to find some secret hidden button on the FOOD page (WHY IS IT THERE???? ZERO LOGIC!!) just so I can set my correct START date.. Jesus Christ!!!!
And PS In case no one told you, the spot in the app where this could be modified (under Account then Body and Nutrition) has a nice beautiful date wheel allowing us to choose a different START DATE but NO S-A-V-E button. So nice! Such a tease!! You have good products, please invest in some better UX for your software.

Having the exact same problem. I have tried everything! Changed it on the app on my phone, changed it under food plan on the website from my computer, nothing works. Every time I change the date it reverts back to today's date. So now each week I have to calculate on my own how much weight I have lost. I don't understand why this is so difficult. I've looked at all the posts from the community and it looks like this problem has been going on for years! You guys need to fix this.

Y'ALL I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!
I haven't seen this solution mentioned anywhere else, I posted this on the original post I asked for help in, but I'll mention it here too.
(Thankfully I use a smart scale & app that's NOT an aria, so I could cross-reference things and have an un-f*&&ked list of data.)
Essentially, I found wildly incorrect weights were scattered throughout my weight history on the fitbit system, which I believed happened every time I tried to edit my goal through the fitbit apps weight dash "edit goal" (not thru the hidden food goal edit). I had my start weight showing up over and over thru my weight history, as well as totally wrong weights (a kilo higher even) logged when I had data that stated otherwise - all caused by me trying to change the start date, and the fitbit app logging that as that dates ~current~ weight instead of as a start weight.
I went thru the weight history, corrected wrong entries and deleted the original start weights that were scattered all throughout, and VOILA! my start date was finally changed to the date I had been trying to set!! It seems the weight history is overriding the customised start date, and it grabs the latest date that it logged the goal weight (which will be today/yesterday if you've been trying to fix it repeatedly with no luck!)
PS Fitbit app developers, you should fix this ASAP, it's obviously been an issue since 2017 at least. Changing a start weight SHOULD NOT log the weight for the date that you are changing it. Holy moley.
