In trying to set up my charge for it says that they are sending Numbers to my charge 3 but the charge three screen no longer lights up so I can’t retrieve the numbers that they need.
which is why I had to buy a new Fitbit

I assume you are going through Set Up a Device, and it asked of you were replacing Charge 3 and you said yes. If so the 4 digit number the app wants should be on your new Charge 4 screen, not on the old Charge 3.
Another hint: If Charge 3 battery is not dead, it might help to move it further away when setting up new Charge 4 to avoid bluetooth conflict.
