Fitbit Update: 8/14

Hey all!

Today we have completely released (out to 100%) this new Charge 2 firmware (22.58.0) to all users. This means everyone should now see it available for download in the Fitbit app. Please update to this new firmware. For instructions on how to complete the update, read How do I update my Fitbit device?

If you come across any difficulty updating, read Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

We've included bug fixes and improvements in this new firmware and always recommend having your tracker up to date, including the Fitbit app on the latest app version.

Fitbit Update: 7/24

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce a new firmware update for Charge 2 (version: 22.58.0).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes other bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Charge 2 can be found here.

If you run into any trouble updating your Charge 2, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

My heart rate hasn't been recorded since I applied the firmware release. I first noticed that I wasn't getting sleep stages, then I went to the Heart Rate tile and noticed the last entries were recorded just before I applied the release. My display shows "--" for heart rate.

Mine is dead too, about 4 days after the screen went black.... I won't buy another Fitbit due to their piss poor customer service.

Not happy with the update either. My app is syncing but the tracker is not. This is why I hate when there are updates as nothing ever works correctly.

Support says that the app hasn't been tested on the Samsung SM-J727V. So I need to try on an approved device. I've never had an issue with any other app on this phone. Guess I'll have to find another activity tracker.

I just updated mine this morning. Unfortunately, my Charge 2 (which had over 50% battery) then suddenly died and I cannot get it to charge or turn back on. I've tried some prescribed methods from several other posts that have not worked yet. Any ideas? Is this related to the update?

Best Answer
In my opinion it is related to the update. Too many people have had major issues with their device after the update for it to be mere coincidence.
Mine is now dead, I will not buy another Fitbit.... Customer Service/Fitbit refuses to do anything about the issues that thousands have had since the update.

I get loads of notifications  every one around the same. the update is killing there fit bit.   but  only one saying have you tried this  or that.    Come on fit bit  your have made a right mess of the update. pull your corporate finger out and sort it or give new! devices  to regain some credibility with your customers. I  am starting to look at other brands at the moment

I got the update offered today... but am unable to apply it.
Progress bar appears on phone and Fitbit, but neither ever move.

Occasionally an exclamation mark is shown on Fitbit, but am uncertain if that indicates a problem.

After a long while (>30 minutes), it stops says it failed and offer to retry or cancel.

Tried multiple times, even while keeping phones display on, but same issue.

With all of the issues reported, maybe just as good... Smiley Indifferent

I performed a tracker software update yesterday.  Plenty of battery in the Charge 2, but ultimately I had to put the Charge 2 in it's charger and press the reset button for 5 seconds before the update started.  Took a full 12 minutes to update.

Got news for you Fitbit (hey moderator, you may want to pass this along to the engineers at Fitbit...) The technology you are using to make this confounded contraption work is relatively new, we all get that. But the problem we are all having is that you are releasing firmware updates that do not easily work. For whatever reason, these updates are failing right and left - and for some reason, the update screws up devices. The biggest issue I'm seeing is that more people have problems with their device after they update - especially in the area of battery life. Not so sure I want my wife to get the update; is there a way to just ignore it? My wife has been trying to get the update for her charge 2 but it always fails and starts over. It reverted back to the old firmware last night and this morning wants her to update.  Besides that..."includes other bug fixes and improvements" WHAT bug fixes and improvements? Oh, and BTW, add release dates to the firmware update list.

I was asked last night to update my firmware for my Charge 2. I did. This morning my tracker correctly logged my workout. BUT now my Fitbit app (on iPhone 8, with latest Fitbit app update) does not find my tracker anymore. So now I can no longer sync my data from device to my app. Any fixes on the horizon?

I might as well add mine on here. Sunday I noticed it was off it should have had a decent amount of battery left.

as I was driving home I felt the shake and the firmware # come across the screen. It turned itself off after an hour. then turned itself on Monday morning for 10 seconds. nothing since then. I've tried resetting, charging, cleaning. Just a blank screen .

I recently received my wife's Charge 2 after she got a new one.  I spent some time checking it out and after a reset, got a notification to update firmware today.  I updated it, and the status shows Firmware Version 22.22.58.0.  I'm not sure why there is an extra 22 on number, or if this was an old version, and can't find any reference anywhere on this number.  Is my firmware really updated to the latest?  If so, why the discrepancy in number?

Note, I haven't observed any issues to date, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that as well.

Same here with the missing heart rate.  I have used the chat support feature and elevated it to email support.  They offered me 25% off to replace, but mine was working fine until the exact moment I installed the upgrade.  They really need to fix the issue and stop lying to the customers looking for support, or thinking they can get a whole bunch of us to purchase new trackers because of their firmware bugs.

I managed to update mine eventually by getting it to sync with the app on my PC rather than my Android app which repeatedly came with the same message as you

Hello everyone, thank you all for your feedback and updates.

If you are having difficulties updating your device please check these suggestions. Make sure your device is charged before doing this.

For the ones reporting that your device isn't reading your heart rate I suggest you clean the back of your device with cotton and rubbing alcohol and restart it. Turn the heart rate off, save and sync then turn it on save and sync again. Also check these tips to improve the heart rate reading on your device.

Finally if your device's battery is draining quickly please check this article.

If the issue persist please let our Support team know about this.

Keep me posted.

My update 22.22.58 update was completed yesterday.  Today's "Walk" I initiated using the app on my phone, and the HR info and summary do not appear.  It only appears if I initiate "Walk" from the Charge 2 unit.

Your suggestion about the HR issue is not germane to my circumstance.  The Charge 2 is definitely registering the HR data, but if the activity is initiated using the phone app,in my case a "Walk", there is no Heart Rate Zone tab and Average HB information in the activity Summary.  If however you initiate the "Walk" using the Charge 2 instead of the phone app, the HR information is captured in the Summary, and there is a Heart Rate Zone tab, however the phone doesn't give you the 1/2 mile pace updates.  Previously, I could use the phone app to initiate recording, and I would get the pace updates as well as the HB data in the summary.

August 7 and still no resolution to notifications issue!  The answer - 'we're working on it'.  Definitely won't be upgrading and will switch if this is not resolved soon.  I also use this for work so I don't need to keep pulling my phone out for every call or text.  Frustrating!

I tried all these suggestions and was then contacted by Support who made the same suggestions even though I told them that my tracker was completely unresponsive. In the end the "solution" was my device is out of warranty so they offered me 25% off a new one. That is not a solution, it does not fix my device which was only broken by the firmware update. And when I expressed my frustration and the fact that I have no intention of ever buying any other Fitbit device, their response was basically "OK, bye". Total disgrace!
