Fitbit Update: 8/14

Hey all!

Today we have completely released (out to 100%) this new Charge 2 firmware (22.58.0) to all users. This means everyone should now see it available for download in the Fitbit app. Please update to this new firmware. For instructions on how to complete the update, read How do I update my Fitbit device?

If you come across any difficulty updating, read Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

We've included bug fixes and improvements in this new firmware and always recommend having your tracker up to date, including the Fitbit app on the latest app version.

Fitbit Update: 7/24

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce a new firmware update for Charge 2 (version: 22.58.0).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Charge 2 can be found here.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Hi @RicardoFitbit! I hope you can assist me on my Fitbit Charge 2. I updated to the new firmware last Monday when I received the update, and my Charge 2 was still syncing to my phone. Later that evening, my battery died completely, which is rather odd because it was at 80% that morning. I left it to charge to 100% before wearing it overnight. In the morning, battery was at 20% and then after about an hour, it drained completely. Now it won't sync at all with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S9). I did the following, and now my phone can't even detect it:

  1. Hard Restart
  2. Restarted my phone
  3. Unpaired my Charge 2 from the Fitbit App
  4. Unpaired my Charge 2 from my phone's bluetooth

and now my Charge 2 is rendered useless because (1) my phone can't seem to recognize my Charge 2 anymore, and (2) the battery life of my Charge 2 is now a joke - need to charge it at least 3 times a day now otherwise it will drain completely! I've never encountered these problems before and it clearly started after I updated my firmware. Please help me out with this. 😞

My Charge 2 seemed rather unaffected by the update but the last couple of days has been giving random calendar reminders REPEATEDLY. The same thing every few minutes for an event a week away. Strange indeed.

I did not update (after reading this 40+ pages).

When I today clicked (on my phone) the icon for the app I was promoted to log in. Don't use to be like this. If I do log in will it automatically update my Charge 2? Help from someone who know needed. Thanks!

I have tried many times to do the Charge 2 update and have followed the troubleshooting tips, but my Fitbit will not update.

Cathy, as you can read through the preceding 41 pages not being able to update your Charge 2 firmware is a good thing. If it's still working correctly then should be grateful and stop trying to update your device until this flawed firmware update is sorted out.

Don’t do the update. It will kill your Charge!

I updated when it first Tom...that's why I am so upset. They have done
absolutely nothing to fix this for me and lots of others. It's disgraceful
that they have screwed up and won't admit or fix it! I am so disappointed
on this company!

Maybe all of this has to do with the fact that Fitbit is putting the company on sell. They just gave up.

How to do get a fix for this update? Since the update my fitbit does not work. I am a little skeptic about purchasing another if updates will destroy my product. Is there going to be a fix for this issue or do I just throw it away.

I've seen a couple of other posts on this thread making the claim that Fitbit is selling out; can anyone provide a reference for this?  Intriguing piece of intel if true and may explain some of what's going on lately.

Thanks Deekay.  Interesting- Google (Alphabet) bought Motorola for it's smartphone business a few years back and then later sold it again I believe and now make their own hardware with the Pixel line of phones.  Wonder what a Google branded Fitbit would be like?  Maybe the software/firmware would work more reliably?

Little advice for you all

My ionic died in the middle of the firmware update.  Went through the online support process only to be offered the same 25% off you all were.  Furious, I called customer support.  I told them the deal and let them know that if all they could offer me was 25% off, they should put me through to a supervisor immediately. They did and I quite angrily explained to the Sup what happened and pointed out this was there problem to solve, not mine.  There really wasn’t lot of back and forth.  The Sup wouldn’t acknowledge the firmware update was the cause but he clearly knew it was, I suspect he’s not allowed to ack it.

That said, my New Ionic arrived 3 days later.  They even paid for expedited shipping.

It sucks that I had to do the extra legwork to get resolution but I suggest you all do exactly as I did.  Do not take no for an answer as this Is clearly their issue.

Had I not received resolution, my next step was to email support and CC every bigwig in the company.  Their email addresses are not hard to find online.

There is also already a story on this issue that the CBC has published.  I’m sure they’d be happy to do a follow up if the company refuses to do the right thing.

Good of luck everyone.  Stand up for yourselves

I updated my fitbit charge 2 using this latest update and it clearly has major flaws. The battery now completely drains in hours and doesn't even warn me that it is going dead.

No one seems to be answering any questions despite news stories and complaints by other customers of similiar issues.

Clearly the company has made a mistake that they won't own up to or more seriously this was done as an attempt to force people to upgrade to newer models.

Repeated attempts by individuals to deal with an actual person have failed...

I wonder what my next steps will be. I can assure you it will not be to purchase a Fitbit product again at this stage.

That would be nice!

I too performed the update for my Charge2 and immediately noticed a lot of the pixels on the face were not working.  Later it jumped to the Notification screen and was vibrating as if my phone was ringing.  It would not stop.  I tried hitting the button to move it past the Notifications and to the Time screen but it wouldn't work.  It did this until the watch died of power.  Since then it would do odd things, jumping from one screen to the next and vibrate.  The watch always dies within an hour or so after being fully charged.  I was hoping Fitbit would release a fix, it shouldn't be to hard to revert affected watches back to their prior setting, but it has been nearly a month with no correction.  For something that cost a lot and I use every day, I'm pretty upset about this.

The only problem I had after the update, which I didn't initiate, was the battery dying almost immediately.

This fixed it, see post 26:

I have no idea whether it will address any of your other problems.

Looks doubtful. After all this time, seems like we've been abandoned. I'm looking at Garmin now
