Fitbit Update: 8/14

Hey all!

Today we have completely released (out to 100%) this new Charge 2 firmware (22.58.0) to all users. This means everyone should now see it available for download in the Fitbit app. Please update to this new firmware. For instructions on how to complete the update, read How do I update my Fitbit device?

If you come across any difficulty updating, read Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

We've included bug fixes and improvements in this new firmware and always recommend having your tracker up to date, including the Fitbit app on the latest app version.

Fitbit Update: 7/24

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce a new firmware update for Charge 2 (version: 22.58.0).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes other bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Charge 2 can be found here.

If you run into any trouble updating your Charge 2, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Got a Garmin Vivoactive 3 (without music) on sale in July for $149 as a back up for my finicky Ionic. It was super easy to set up and pair with my Pixel 3 phone.  Works very well and has onboard GPS too.  The build quality isn't as nice as the Ionic (resin/plastic case with stainless steel bezel ring) and screen resolution is not as good either but 10x better than the primitive Charge 2 (use my Charge 2 just for sleep tracking). Definitely worth checking out if you're frustrated with the Fitbit firmware update issues.

Even with their newest update, mine won't turn on. It syncs, shows which update it is while in the charger, but the green lights won't come on and the device won't turn on....but it syncs! Lol

I didn't get a choice about the update.  Walked in after a day of hard work and everything was different.  The only problem I have had with my Charge 2 was when it wouldn't sync - had to reboot my computer and it will work fine.  This new Dashboard is driving me crazy - what little I have managed to figure out takes forever.  These things cost way too much to be constantly replaced.

Hello, since I last updated the app my Fitbit will only hold charge for 20mins when you unplug it from charging it flashes up with 22.58.0. Before the update it was lasting 4/5 days. I have a Fitbit charge 2. Please help! I’m so gutted it appears to have become useless since the update!

Would you believe that someone must have flipped a switch.  I'm back to the old setup.  So far so good.  It is 10 times faster than the "new and better" update.  Thank you whom ever you are.

Don't know what happened. But sometime later it as reverted back to "the
new & improved" again.

I started this morning off with a fresh boot something was adjusted over
night and had to sign in. When I went in to post breakfast and lunch it was
back to the old set up. It must have been someone's glitch because now this
evening I went to post my dinner, exercise and water and the New and
Improved one is back. Crazy crazy.

Haven't a clue how this happened. If anyone knows please pass it on.

I complained via email and was given this list of actions.

Although I only completed the first one my fit bit went from the battery lasting less then a day back to lasting an entire week almost. Its like they changed something... So basically I am only now at the point where the battery is completely dead so they can test it. Its crazy but something here worked. I never had a lot of notifications etc so it wasnt that.

"Thanks for writing back to us in regards to your Charge 2's battery that is draining faster than expected after the recent firmware update.

Upon review, we're able to find your Fitbit account where Charge 2 is connected with the last performed sync about a minute ago with 69% battery. With this in mind, we'd like to thank you for all the additional information about the issues you're having with. That being said, we'd like to perform some troubleshooting to determine where the problem really is coming from.

In addition to device-specific features that can affect battery life, review these features that can drain the battery:

  • Alarms (including setting a lot of alarms, using snooze, letting the alarms run the full cycle)
  • Notifications (call, text)
  • Quick view
  • Frequently syncing (by opening the app)

I know how important your Fitbit is as your partner in achieving your fitness goals that's why I'd like to investigate the behavior of your battery. To do so, may I recommend to follow the instructions below, to do a battery drain test which will help me determine how long your battery last after a full charge:

When your battery is completely drained, meaning that your Fitbit is no longer responsive and you no longer see the low battery indicator, let me know the day you fully charged your Charge 2 and the day it was fully depleted. With this information, I’ll be able to better research how long your battery is lasting.

The update was applied to my device last night and now my device is drained within a few minutes. I have turned off HR monitor, sync, quick view, everything other than steps in hopes that it will last longer however nothing seems to help. I have charged my device twice already.  The latest update has rendered my Charge 2 useless.  HELP.

Hi!

Welcome to the thread of disappointment and death of Fitbit charge 2s!

Still waiting on a resolution. Only been about a month and one update!

Coffee is to your left, bathrooms are down the hall, and us angry consumers (all awaiting a miracle) are scattered throughout this room. Enjoy!

Well I was so happy yesterday when it went back to normal. Now today it has
gone back to new and improved and boy does it suck. Put in my meals for the
day and it tells me on the screen that I'm over about 1498 calories,
however, on the dash board it tells me I'm at 1148 which is about what it
should be.

I guess China is getting even for "the Trump Bump"; too bad. Some things
they make are great but I've had enough. Stopped buying anything made in
China and just because Trump doesn't seem to realize the extra costs he's
causing everyone I will stop buying anything from the Ununited States of
Trump.

Bah humbug

Month 2 with no resolution in sight or at least an announcement from Fitbit agreeing to restore all affective devices back to the point before the firmware was release.

I’ve been with Fitbit since Jan 2014 and I finally caught on to their scam a few years back when the exact same circumstances that users are experiencing now with the Charger 2 happened when a firmware update was sent out to users of the One tracker.
In order for Fitbit to continue being profitable and remain relevant they need us, the consumers to purchase their new trackers and for those of us who don’t feel the need to upgrade every time something new and shiny comes along Fitbit came up with the scam to send out bogus and destructive firmware rendering them useless and pushing us into buying a new one.

Fitbit has no plans to issue a fix which is why when you call customer service to complain they will offer you that measly 25% off a newer model.  Some of you were able to get new devices but really how long will that device last? As you can see from their website the Charger 2 has been moved down to “Other Devices” ( the tracker graveyard) because they no longer have any interest in supporting it. There are only 5 models be promoted right now: Versa, Versa 2, Ionic, Charger 3, Ace & Inspire Family.  I haven’t downloaded the firmware and still refuse to do so and so far my tracker is working fine with no issues.

Sorry to all of you who are experiencing problems. I know the frustration and aggravation you’re going through.

casey01, like you I have studiously avoided the Charge 2 firmware update despite being prompted to do so every time I open the app (very annoying) and my device works just fine and without compromised battery life.  Why this flawed firmware hasn't been fixed or replaced with a new version is mystifying. I don't usually subscribe to conspiracy theories but you have to wonder the rationale of their continued pushing a known faulty update.

I wonder if Fitbit saw little or no profit in making a device that we can use for years and supporting it. Similar to the Apple business model of making programing non- compatible with old hardware, Fitbit appears to be bricking Charge 2s in order to force owners to upgrade to a different model, counting on customer loyalty to keep the customers coming back. What they didn't figure is that poor customer support is not helping. Remember,  a rat doesn't leave a sinking ship because he's a rat. He leaves because the ship is sinking.

I got my replacement (refurbished) last week and it too got stuck on setup.  Another one arriving this week.  Not holding my breath that it will work.  I’ve been without since August 2nd. Had to literally threaten them with media exposure to finally get a refurbished piece of garbage.  So not impressed and won’t ever buy from them again.
