Hello everybody,
I recently got a Charge 2, and in the track exercise with GPS data I can only choose between run/walk/hike. Outdoor Bike is listed as an "Auto Recognized Exercises," but it says, that GPS will not be turned on.
Can it really be true, that FitBit doesn't offer any tracking with GPS for outdoor cycling?
I've looked at the forums and found this: Charge 2 Connected GPS
One accepted solution says to "Start bike mode on Charge 2, wait for connected GPS to activate," but I can't seem to find a "bike mode."
Can anybody help me with this?
Kind regards,
Tue

I used my Charge 2 for about 9 months but have finally abandoned it given that it was more discouraging than encouraging. I found it useful for walking and really quite accurate overall as long as you walked at a steady pace. If you did what I like to call "walk/runs" where you walk and then run and then walk etc. it would get confused pretty quickly.
However for cycling and workouts etc. it was just "very very" wrong. I kept at this for 9 months so this was just not a flash in the pan judgement. I tried different bands, wearing it differently etc. but nothing worked. I would go for nice brisk walks and it would register the correct amount of time and, for example, 600 to 700 calories. The next day I would set it for cycling and do a hard bike ride (and please stress the word hard as I used to race bikes). If I cycled for an hour it would register 20 minutes and it would say I burned 200 calories. Let's compare this - a nice walk for an hour and I burn 650 calories and a hard ride (including climbs) for an hour and I burn 200 calories. Hmmm??
This also happened during work outs. I would set it for workout and then proceed to work really hard for an hour and get about 1/4 the calorie burn as a nice walk for the same amount of time. This happened to me over and over until I finally said "this is not helping" and took it off for good.
So to those who want a Charge 2 as a training aid or something to help with overall fitness then I certainly would not recommend it. If you just go for walks and want to know how many steps you took then it is OK.
BTW... I did phone support a few times and got some friendly people who had no solution that
helped in any way.

Not sure why my post got moved/attached to another thread about "tracking cycling"?? I had done all of that and none of that worked. Please read my post before wrongly attaching it to something else!

I have same model, same problem. GPS drops out soon after starting to bike so heart rate and time are accurate but no route. So, the free version of map my ride is what I've gone back to using.
Also notifications worked for about a week and dropped out.
I'm pretty disappointed in the product. I've invested the time and energy to set the device up and search out answers. This Fitbit just doesn't perform as promised.

I am having the same problem. Last weekend it tracked my ride, today, it stopped about 2 miles into a 30 mile ride.

This issue is NOT solved. I just had a chat with support, and they said that their engineers are aware of this problem and are working on it. No timeframe for a solution. Today is Aug. 15, 2017. I'll contact them again in a month if it's not fixed.

In what way is the question not solved @Mulvamj?
The question of the origanal poster, was how to track a bike ride with the Charge 2. The solution explains how to add the bike mode to the tracker.
Now if your refferring to the subject that has hijacked this thread, this new subject is unrelated to the solution. The easiest way to keep threads readable is to not hijack them.

When I attempt to track cycling or walking my FitBit Charge2 only records start and end points on the map. It seems to be loosing or not recording any points in between. That make map looks totally silly, as if I have not moved at all Hart rate and steps are being recorded though.

I have run into this problem too. As far as I can tell the problem is the Charge 2 itself. I have run Map my Ride as well as Shealth parallel to Fitbit on my bike ride and get a perfectly plotted ride in those apps, so the gps is clearly working. I obviosly have notifications on but as others note, the Bike mode seems very troublesome.

The responses below mine also show that this issue is not resolved. You can, of course, add a bike mode to the tracker, but that doesn't solve the problem. The problem is that it does not actually track the bike ride, which is the original issue on this post.
I don't think commenting on the failure of the Charge 2 to track GPS cycling activity is outside the thread since the title of the thread is "Charge 2 GPS tracking cycling."

Hi, i don't understand how to get tracking maps after cycling or biking, my GPS on Samsung A3 2016 is on and connected to the Charge 2. Th French version of your soft dosn't list "biking" in the choices of the "Raccourcis vers l'exercice" !

Had the same issue with bike mode and same error in charge 2 - turning phone off (iPhone 6) and restarting has fixed it 👍

Same issue with Alta, Strava doesn't even recognize it as a heart rate sensor.
