Charge 2 Won’t properly track outdoor bike

Bought my Charge 2 in 2022. I have it set to auto track my outside bike ride. I notice the app asks for start and stop time and date which makes no sense if you have it on auto. I have tried both. Plus I saw it said it won’t track gps if on auto. Why not? An outdoor ride should track it.  I always have the phone with me. My app is set to track me always.  Bottom line is it annoys me to have to manually type when I start and stop.

Also wondering if you experience this: The screen is no longer very sensitive to tapping. I’ve had it two years and often must tap repeatedly (soft or hard) to wake it up and view info 🙄

@Debilee823   Your Charge 2 has two different ways to track an outdoor bike ride.  I hope my explanations will help you.

  • Automatic tracing is a feature called SmartTrack.  It recognizes different high movement activities.  It doesn't use GPS and it can't.  This feature was introduced when the Charge HR was the current Charge model.  It was a simpler time.  If you don't want or need a map in your details, then just ride your bike.
  • You need to use the Exercise app on the Charge 2 with the Bike shortcut to get a GPS map.  How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

You mentioned the app asking for a start and stop time.  I'm not sure what you are doing, but it sounds like you are tapping on the green "+" button on the app and using the Manually log option.  This won't help you.  You should only use this feature if you did something and forgot to wear your Fitbit.

The Charge 2 manual says you should tap your tracker where the screen meets the band.  This might help.  You can find the Charge 2 manual here for help with exercise tracking on your Fitbit.
