Charge 2 and spin/stationary bike

I have no idea how to get the charge 2 to track this activity properly. The HR monitor counted 26 minutes of cardio + 14 minutes of fatburn, that's correct(at least it matched the HR numbers from my chest band). Somehow this counts as 0 active minutes and only 184 calories burned. A simple calculation puts the calories burned using the avg heartrate closer to 600 calories.

I saw a few older posts concerning this but none of them seemed to have an answer. Is there a way to get the fitbit to calculate the calorie burn from this activity properly? Is there a way to enter the calorie burn manually for an excercise?

I got the fitbit with the goal of consolidating multiple apps and a logbook on the side into one app/peripheral. If it can't calculate cycling I'm going to cry.

Hi @CardiganWearer@MFitz73 and @eltoo! Thanks for posting your inquiries here.

I'd like to clarify the information about calories burned being modified after you've synced the activity. It's possible to edit certain type of activities, for example the ones that have been tracked with the option "Workout" from the Surge for example. And also the activities that are automatically tracked by your Fitbit (walk, run, sport, etc.) Options that Fitbit Charge 2 also has.

They will appear on the Dashboard with a little pencil a side so you can name or rename the activity. Let's take the example of the online Fitbit Dashboard, depending on the name of the activity some information might change. See the workout below it was changed to spinning and the information regarding distance was changed. In some cases calories burned change too but it's depending on the activity.

spinning manually log2.PNG

You can also use the option "Log Activities" to enter the activity with the amount of calories burned that you wish.

@MFitz73 Please check this information to get a better reading for your HR, since your Fitbit will take in count your HR to determine how many calories you're burning.

Hope this helps!

that's odd, I'm sure I posted a reply to this 😞

here is the cut down version:

  • if I choose a workout from the multisport mode, eg Run, Walk, Spinning I cannot change anything recorded for that activity.
  • If I let the Charge 2 decide which activity I am performing it will let me change the name and nothing else.

I can't see where one can change calories burnt etc for any activity.activity editing.PNG

If you elect to change the name and it isn't one fitbit recognises (eg I enter 'walking') then it asks to Add Activity.

You're totally right @CardiganWearer! As the option that I mentioned is not from Charge 2 but it is from the Fitbit Blaze and Surge, since some participants on these threads are owners of these specific models.  I also mentioned that the data might change depending on the activity they are performing.

The information you posted is right, thanks for pointing it out! It's important to clarify these details. In case of Charge 2 you will have the option to add activities in order to enter an specific amount of calories.

Thanks a million for the pictures and your response.

thanks for that clarification @YojanaFitbit.

so, all of us here in the Charge 2 forum aren't going mad afterall 🙂

interesting that the website allows different editing of an activity depending on which tracker it sourced the data from. slightly odd software design actually.

Your welcome @CardiganWearer! Actually, the difference is not that big. But the most important part here is that the data will change depending on the activity you're are choosing when you use the option "edit".

I'll be around if you have any other question.

Recently I had 2 activities tracked that I wanted to change the name of.

The auto names were Sport and Outdoor Bike

both had the pencil mark next to them indicating I could change the activity name.

The Sport one it let me change to Yard Work (an activity I created)

but it won't let me change the Outdoor Bike one.

  • I select edit/pencil.
  • Search for Yard Work.
  • Select and hit Update
  • takes me back to activities with Outdoor Bike still showing.

If I try to create a new activity, eg Yard Work2, I get the same result.

I have the same problem.

If you strap it to your ankle it seem to give a accurate step count at least.

A warm welcome to the Fitbit Community @Malcolm631911. Thanks for your feedback and for posting your comment here. I wanted to clarify that as Fitbit was designed to we be worn on your arms, it's best to follow the suggestion here to improve the accuracy of it.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Yoyanda,

I am trying to to get my Charge 2 to work with my bike in my Spinning classes. I have read your previous note but when I go to the app to add additional workouts like spinning the option is greyed out and therefore I cannot access any additional information. Can you help please ?

Thanks.

Hello @Johnbuoy there should also be a note saying that all seven spots are filled. You will need to remove am exercise first.

I have the Alta HR. I purchased an ankle strap. I found that on the average spin class I receive about 5500 "steps" and 400-600 calories for a 45 min class

Welcome to the Forums @Johnbuoy

I hope you have better results checking the details that @Rich_Laue suggested. Keep me posted.

@saabsista Thanks for sharing this option. Fitbit Alta HR doesn't have that option on the Fitbit Store since it was designed to be worn on your wrist, you can read more about it here. But let's see how it works for you! Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Keep me posted with the outcome!

It works well on my ankle and I log about 6000 steps during a spinning session.

@123lynette remind me not to be in a Challange with you. These false steps have no relation to the calories your body burns.

Currently their is a group that are extreamly upset that any steps are added with biking, spinning, weight lifting and other non stepping exercises.

“False” steps .... truly remarkable, as if there is anything natural about counting steps in the first place.

I tried to add spinning out your instructions, but only have bike as an option. It says I have all 7 shortcuts in use, but spinning is not an option for my charge 2.  Is there a different place I should look?

Yes you can add spinning to your charge 2 @TTsteps  which is one odd the absolute, I believe 18, might even be 19 exercises available. As the instructions that tell you that all 7 spots are assigned states,  to add another exercise you will first have to remove an exercise.
