Charge 2 and spin/stationary bike

I have no idea how to get the charge 2 to track this activity properly. The HR monitor counted 26 minutes of cardio + 14 minutes of fatburn, that's correct(at least it matched the HR numbers from my chest band). Somehow this counts as 0 active minutes and only 184 calories burned. A simple calculation puts the calories burned using the avg heartrate closer to 600 calories.

I saw a few older posts concerning this but none of them seemed to have an answer. Is there a way to get the fitbit to calculate the calorie burn from this activity properly? Is there a way to enter the calorie burn manually for an excercise?

I got the fitbit with the goal of consolidating multiple apps and a logbook on the side into one app/peripheral. If it can't calculate cycling I'm going to cry.

Hello @Alanthatsme2 im not sure, are you asking if your bike  is able to sync to your Fitbit account? Does your bike have seen online account? You will need to ask thre manufacture of the bike.

When it comes to spinning, the user and their wrist are relatively stationary, ie: not moving, and the Charge 2 has no reference to measure the virtual miles that the tire went on its imaginary ride. The only way distance with thre Charge 2 can be measured accurately is with GPS, however GPS requires thre user to actually be physically moving.

I have had some success strapping my fitbit to my ankle while cycling or
spinning. It seems able to count each pedal cycle as a step, although not
always and not consistently. But certainly better than wearing it on the
wrist, where nothing gets counted while cycling.

Fitbit does not use stereo count for record of none stepping exercises,  but uses calories burnt.  As long as the tracker is reading your heartrate then the user gets credit for caloric burn.  They also get credit for doing the exercise.

Now our world be nice I'd Fitbit allows the user to edit distance.

Wet so have a few suggestions that voted may be added to.

Wow! 46km on a stationary bike! Impressive!!
You can go to “track exercise “on your Charge 2 and edit the time and distance.

Go to exercise shortcuts (by tapping on the icon top left on your screen) and you’ll see a list of exercises you can choose from

I have followed the directions, but there is no spinning option in my exercise shortcuts. Although I have tried several times my Fitbit Charge 2 Exercise Settings only include: Run, Weights, Treadmill, Workout, Elliptical, Bike and Interval Workout. I have even tried individually clicking on each exercise to see if it is attached to one. It also says at the bottom of this setting that all exercise options are in use. Is this because I recently got the new ap update or somehow do not have the same version of FitBit Charge 2? Spin is one of my favorite workouts and I would enjoy tracking it specifically. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

It’s been a long time since I’ve changed this, but I believe you have to log in online to do it. Maybe someone else can add to this.
The problem with the spin option is that it doesn’t count steps and you have to start and stop it manually.

@Kristina_M_yyc as you ssy, all exercises are in use. The message continues and says that you must remove an exercise before you will be able to add Spin.

Best Answer
Just remove the one you use the least and ad spinning

I put the strap around my ankle and secure it with my sock to count steps. You’ll have to start and stop it manually because it is a stationery bike and does not activate the GPS

I have figure out why heart rate will register as resting heart rate on a stationary bike — Fitbit does not measure your heart rate!!!!!  It estimates your heart rate based on gps data or stride frequency/length and age!! If you are in a stationary bike then your gps  tells Fitbit you’re sitting still and resting because you’re not moving and your arms are not moving!!!!!!!  I think I have caught Fitbit here!!!!!!!

Please stop yelling.

Fitbit used an optical sensor and with the green lights does read your heart rate.

Please see How does my Fitbit device detect my heart rate?

So tell me why the fit bit “reads” heart rate while moving on a bike but doesn’t when stationary??

FB does read your HR, continuously; it does so even when you're sleeping.

In this thread a few of us have been discussing what the FB algorithm counts as "steps".  It turns out that the pedaling motion on a stationary bike does not get picked up.  That issue is solved if you strap the FB on your ankle - in which case each pedal rotation is logged in by FB as a step - assuming that matters to someone seeking to track their activity.  While that solves the step-counting issue with a stationary bike, a few of us find that a FB strapped on the ankle doesn't read the HR as reliably or consistently vs strapped on the wrist.  Maybe this is due to the fact that the ankle area isn't ideally suited to the FB to measure HR.

Note that the motion on an elliptical seems to be picked up by FB as steps, even though it is (like a stationary bike) also stationary.  However, this experience is mixed; many elliptical users report their activity not being counted as steps by FB.
