Charge 2 battery only lasts a few hours

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

After many months of excellent battery life, where I would only need to charge it every 5-7 days, almost overnight my Fitbit Charge 2 has developed a fault where the battery only lasts a matter of hours. Anyone else experienced something similar in the past few days? I haven't changed anything so I don't know what is going on. I love my Fitbit, but this makes it essentially useless. Ironically, I received an email from Fitbit this morning telling me to upgrade my Fitbit to the latest models... a cynic might suggest that the two things are not coincidence! I don't feel I've had this one long enough to upgrade it, and certainly won't be doing so if this is what happens to the battery after a certain amount of time. Any comments welcome and appreciated.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @RichS78! I'm sorry to hear that your Charge's battery life is not lasting.

Consider these tips when you want to conserve battery life:

  • If you use the Fitbit app, make sure All-Day Sync is turned off. All-Day Sync increases battery drain on both your tracker and mobile device.
  • If you don't need heart rate data, change the Heart Rate setting to Off. When you turn it back on, use Auto.
  • Turn off Quick View. Since it causes the screen to light up when you turn your wrist towards you, turning this setting off may prolong battery life.
  • Don't receive reminders to move every hour. To get fewer reminders, make sure you walk 250 steps each hour, change the number of hours you want your stationary time monitored, or turn off the feature on days you don't need it.
  • Turn call, text, or calendar notifications off if you know you're going to receive many hundreds of notifications. A large volume reduces battery life.
  • If you have many silent alarms set, consider deleting some. Each alarm you add up to the maximum of 8 reduces battery life by a small percentage.
  • Don't charge your tracker in extreme heat or cold.

However, as per the description of your post and consider that your tracker is a brand new... maybe it's running an old version of its firmware? Therefore, I'd recommend trying the following:

  • Log out of your Fitbit App
  • Force quit the App
  • Restart your Charge 2
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit App
  • Update the Firmware version of your Charge 2
  • Sync right after finishing the update

Running old version might cause issues like this one.

Give this a go and let me know how it goes!

Thank you - sadly I’ve tried all of the above but nothing. It is getting worse too... I fully charged it just before going to bed and it didn’t even make it through the night. It is such a shame that my Fitbit journey ends here - I absolutely loved it, but as a piece of wearable tech it is no longer fit for purpose. The heart rate monitor has also stopped working now as well. If there are any other suggestions please pass them on, but I don’t anticipate any magic solution - it just appears to have reached the end of its life, which is incredibly disappointing. Thanks again for efforts to help.

I am facing the same issue as you now, how is your issue being resolved? Gave up and move on to other products? I am seriously thinking of that too.

No idea what to do at the moment - it is just bizarre that it has happened all of a sudden... not a gradual deterioration, which makes more sense and would be more understandable. I really loved it (and my old Charge HR before it) and ensured it was very well looked after, but now it is just a source of frustration. I’ll see how it goes over the coming week, but I think it is doomed.

It is the same situation for me. My charge HR gen 1 has the same behavior that it just fails after a year of use. It seem that HR 2 does not allow change of battery. So i will need to find some other solution too. Good luck.

I have exactly the same problem as you within one day... after about one year of use  the battery time deteriorated such that it's now minor even finishing the night.

What can I do?

What ended up happening here? I'm currently having the same issue, and Fitbit is having me do a battery test, but the heart rate isn't even working now and we're at 30% in just 2.5 hours.
