On my charge 2 when I go to use it for walking or running, it comes up with message 'Check Fitbit App'. It also shows the picture with the phone and a line through it. It appears to be recording the data to the app on my IPhone but not showing the map route that I took. I have checked and tried everything regarding settings within the app and within the IPhone settings as per the forums, have tried re setting the charge 2 and phone and having no joy. Have owned the charge 2 since June and has been working fine until over the last week or so. I have the latest firmware on the charge 2 and the latest IOS 11.1 on the phone. It maybe a small issue but its blooming annoying. Also if I go out running or walking using the app, it appears to all work fine, including map of route, so GPS on phone must be working. Bluetooth is on and showing connected, can anyone help please. Thank you.

I am having the same issue, but I have an Android phone with software version 6.0.1. Nothing I do has fixed the issue.

@Charge2wontwork do you see this message when trying to use the connected GPS or retrieve weather?
Have you tried while the Fitbit app is open and in the front? Do you get the error at this time?

Hey, I get the following message on my Charge2:
I also get the following message on my phone:
Always Connected & Keep-Alive Widget are turned on. I have no problem with GPS or weather on any other apps.

Happens on Android too. No joy with any of the suggested equivalent fixes for iPhones.

Maybe @Yayasister it is because iOS is not android.
Have you checked the power management? Or Android tips.

I uninstalled then reinstalled the Fitbit app, turned on "always connected" permission for gps and set the screen timeout to 30 minutes. This has"fixed" it but I haven't tried exercise beyond 30 minutes. Very annoying and slightly suspicious in that new devices have been released and are being marketed heavily.

@Yayasister set location services to use all forms of location.
Open the Fitbit app, start your GPS event.
Once the GPS has connected, let it run for a while, make sure the phone screen does not go blank. Then move the Fitbit app to the background. If GPS fails, let us know.
If Fitbit does not fail, let the phone screen go blank. If the GPS fails at this time, let us know.
Note that on many android phones, gps will fail when the phone goes dark and the Fitbit app is in the foreground.

@Rich_LaueAll appears to be working so far! Changed screen timeout to 5 minutes and tested in the sequences you described. Tested from a manual start of exercise from within the Fitbit phone app as well as from wrist device.
Hopefully, no further issues.

@Rich_Laue sadly, the app and wrist device are not able to maintain connection. Today, I started bike exercise on wrist device with Fitbit app running on phone. GPS was working but failed after screen went blank. When I stopped and made phone screen active again, the GPS connection re-established. At end of exercise, the duration of activity was correct but the total miles was woefully short. The visual map in the app showed the correct route though. So frustrating!

@Rich_Laue I had left it running in foreground.

@Yayasister that could be the reason it fail# when the screen shuts off. Some android phones will stop the Fitbit app, if it is running in the foreground, when the phone sleeps. Try opening a different app before the phone sleeps.
If GPS fails when the Fitbit app gets moved to the background, please turn off the power management for the Fitbit app.
Another step to try would be a restart of the phone, when I restart the phone I find GPS connects long before I'm am able to do anything on the phone. This restart of the phone might be a good check for either phone OS.
One issue I see about the subject of this thread is a phone restart is not about the Fitbit tracker, but about the phone. The Fix for an iOS device will probably not work if your phone is an android device. The opposite is also true.

@Rich_Laue GPS failed again and total miles riden is WOEFULLY short on today's bike ride while the Fitbit app was running in the background. Sequence of start was as follows: Started phone app then started different app in foreground, started wrist device on bike exercise. Shortly after noticed loss of GPS on wrist device and noted phone display was off. After waking phone up, GPS connected again but kept disconnecting off and on.
I am not sure what setting you mean by "power management"? I checked the battery setting for the Fitbit app and the app has no battery restriction. It IS allowed to use the battery when in background.

What do you mean by started the phone app?
You should not have to start the phone app. All you need is to have the Fitbit services running and this should start when the phone does.
You say that when the phone's screen turns of GPS fails. Waa the Fitbit app currently open on the screen of the phone when the screen shut? I mentioned above that some Android devices must have the app runningbinnyhe background when the screen times out.
For power management see my above link to Android tips
What happens if you shut the Fitbit app off and restart the phone while the tracker is trying to acquire a GPS lock?
