Charge 2 counting way more steps than I've done

My Charge 2 is showing 10690 steps this morning, when all I've really done is walk to the kitchen, then to the car! Normally at this time of day, with this amount of activity I would expect to see a few hundred steps at most. All other readings are apparently accurate, i. e. calories burned, floors climbed, but steps and distance are wildly inaccurate. Any ideas?

@NettieNoodle It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! Sorry to hear that your device is showing a high amount of steps. By any chance are these the steps you did the previous day? It could be that your device didn't reset at midnight. Another thing could be that you were near a vibrating surface as this could have counted a high amount of steps. Could you share some information about any of these possibilities? Another thing  could be a manually logged activity with the incorrect time or date that may show early in the morning.

I look forward to your reply.

All day yesterday it showed too many steps, but everything else looked normal. I didn't notice whether it reset at midnight, but this morning, all of yesterday's totals were pretty much double what I'd expect them to be - 22000 steps, 4000 calories, so yes, I think it hadn't reset the day before. It seems OK today. Is there a reason it might not have reset? And can I manually reset?
