I was constantly having one side of the bands break, where it attached to the Fitbit. It always happened within warranty, so, did that, about 3 times.
Finally got tired of the time I couldn't use it, because, I had no band (it was always same side that broke).
I looked for a 3rd party replacement band, and found these wonderful mesh-like metal (except, where it connects), bands, I think the metal is called Milanese? They strap using a loop and magnet, instead of the traditional buckle. They also come in different colors, and, they're cheaper!!
I know, doesn't help with smashed screen... I've read that others, with, for no reason, smashed screens, are offered discounts off of a new Fitbit. Maybe, if you contact them directly, you can get that, at least?
My screen has a crack also, but, was my fault, my wrist often ends up the same level as the linen closet door handle, as I leave my bedroom.
