Hey @Gr64, let me give you a warm welcome to the Forums! Smiley Happy If your Charge 2 doesn't seem to be tracking your sleep stages, there are some factors that could be affecting them, so I'd like you to take a look at the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.

Let me know how it goes. 😉

I personally have tried all these things and my sleep stages just quit working. Thinking about sending back and trying a different one.

Hello,

I think, there is a bug, because my tracking sleep stages is every day the same (not critical low battery, the same position on my hand, more than 3 hours of sleeping) I can see, that in repeating cycles Charge HR 2 can't recognized sleep stages. I have analysed past one year and i have found out that sleeping stages werent recognized (max) after 10 nights. Sometimes it was after 5 nights, sometimes after 7 nights. It is not important if you have battery low or high. Eg. last night my battery was about 65 % and sleep stages wasn't recognized. Day before all were ok and today I suppose that all will be ok.Thanks for any idea. Pete

Hello guys, @pete_vala and @Sharisue, I hope you are doin' great!

In order to receive your Sleep Stages on a consistent basis, there are certain requirements that must be met. I posted above some of them. If you had previously received your Sleep Stages, but no longer get them, and you neither changed anything in your sleep routine or how you're wearing the tracker, to have the tracker record Sleep Stages, you have to ensure you are getting enough heart rate variability. All our heart rate trackers record sleep in the same form, so if you had no issues with another tracker please note they all track the same way and all depend on the same requirements.

Our Sleep Stages article states:

While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. When you sync your device in the morning, we use your movement and heart rate patterns to estimate your sleep cycles from the previous night.

There are many things that can affect your heart rate pattern on any given night. If the tracker couldn't gather enough HRV data, you will most likely receive the classic sleep log. Also, when your tracker doesn't record Sleep Stages, the app will provide an in-app notification explaining why. Lastly, I would always make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app syncing on your mobile device.

I hope that helps. Let me know if further questions come across. 😉

I have the same issue with my fitbitHR which I've been using for about a month and a half now. For a month or so it tracked sleep stages perfectly well. Now, suddenly it no longer will do so.  Fully charged, sleeping 8 hrs night, no change in sleep positions. What gives?  My heart rate variability (I assume) is no more or less than what it was in the prior month, when it recorded 1-2 hrs of deep sleep, 3-5 hrs light sleep, etc. but this no longer shows.  Help?

The canned reply to my original post, which mimics the earlier reply is not helpful.  What I DID find helpful was the person on the chat line who told me to make sure that my heartrate setting (set on the device itself, not on the app), was turned on. It appears that in some situations the device turns the heartrate setting to OFF (without it being turned off manually by you the user).  I have to keep going back from time to time and turn that setting back ON. WHen the heart rate setting is on then I get the detailed sleep record.

THANK YOU!! This has been my problem all week! Every answer I could get from Fitbit was canned, repeated the same as I could read in the app, as you said. I appreciate your input greatly!

It didn't help.  About once every two weeks it works and nothing has changed.

I was having issues with the accurate recording of sleep stages before on my Charge 2. To rectify it, I had to switch the heart rate tracking setting from auto to on. After the various updates, it started again, the sleep stages not being recorded. I changed it back to auto and now it's working again. I'm fairly sure it has something to do with the app updates, which are catered towards the newer models.
