Please help.
I haven't used my Charge 2 for maybe more than 2-3 years.. It vibrates when I place it on the charger, battery being charged also shows but when I take it off from the charger, it doesn't do anything.. Also the green lights are not turning On.. While on charge, it shows its manufacturer details when I keep pressing the button once but that's about it.
Can anyone please help 😔

Please if you’re reading this, and your device is still in warranty (1 year since purchase) or close to that if in NZ because then consumer guarantees act applies, contact support now. Don’t delay. I’ve had two Fitbits replaced because they stopped working, or in case of Charge HR the band started falling apart six months after purchase.
I have used my Charge 2 continually and it’s having the same issue now. I charged it all night, it said 100% when I pressed the button, so I removed it from the charger. After which I got the normal screen when I pressed the button, then it flashed empty battery and went dead shortly afterwards. I have tried resetting (soft reset), put in charger, hold button until Fitbit logo and version number appear on screen then release. I also tried a hard reset which is a bit more complicated, search online. Note that any unsynched data will be lost, but if you’re reading this I’m guessing that’s not your biggest worry right now. This one you hold button for 2 seconds then unplug charger and hold another 8 seconds then release for a second and hold again. At which point I can get no further because the empty battery symbol gets in the way of seeing the “alt” which is meant to appear at that point, and then it goes dead again. I also tried cleaning all the contacts Fitbit and charger with isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Actually I just remembered I have alcohol wipes left from IVF, so I might just try one of those, as they recommend alcohol swab for the charger.
My only solutions as I see it are:
- Buy a new charger and try that, although I did have a replacement charger sent to me by Fitbit early on as it stopped charging, I actually think it’s the battery this time. I read online the battery lasts about a year!
- Buy a replacement battery for the Fitbit and install it. Yes I saw a best answer on this forum to the question can I replace the battery? that simply said no it’s not replaceable, but my sources say differently, and why would they sell the batteries online if you can’t replace them? There are also YouTube videos for how to do it. Everyone says you can’t replace an iPhone battery, but you actually can. I have done it quite successfully, and yes it was hard and fiddly, but quite possible, and I’m writing this message on my phone now, without being plugged in, which before battery replacement would’ve been impossible, actually it was acting a lot like my Fitbit is now. I imagine a Fitbit Charge 2 is a lot less complicated inside than an iPhone.
- Buy a new device. This is kind of tempting but I can’t actually afford this at the moment. Apparently support will give you 25% off if your Fitbit stops working outside warranty though. The Charge 3 actually looks pretty good, and it’s probably time for an upgrade. Currently using my Flex 2, but it has no time which is annoying. Might have to go back to my Baby G watch, which needs a new battery which costs a lot these days.

Hi there 😊
I'm actually from Pakistan. My brother gifted this device to my mom but as she's wasn't using it, so I thought I should 😉 There are no fitbit centers here, he got it from Dubai on one of his visits.. I charged it for 3 whole days, finally battery logo showed fully charged but once of the charger, it won't still turn On, the green lights too are completely Off.. I think it just died and the charging is its last breath 🤣🤣

Yes I’m beginning to think mine has breathed it’s last breath too somehow. I don’t think we have Fitbit in NZ, but I still got one sent. They can log in and see when you started using it, if it’s been less than a year you can probably still get a replacement, or at least a partial credit. I got I think two replacements for my old Charge HR because the straps started disintegrating soon after purchase. I bought that one from Ali Express I believe, and Fitbit still provided full support. My Charge 2 was from a local retailer, well NZ local anyway, I actually bought it when I was staying out of town for medical treatment.
Mine is also showing full battery after charging, and on dashboard on computer too I just saw yesterday, but then quickly goes to empty battery and blank screen with no green light on the back. I just read last night the only way to factory reset is to unlink it from your account using app or computer dashboard. The method online I think I posted above while it says it’s also for Charge 2, Fitbit say that it is not. I think this will be my last resort, and I’m almost at last resort now. I kind of wonder if it’s just a communication issue, the battery is actually full, but a glitch is telling it it’s not. Either that or the battery life is over. I have replaced my iPhone battery which everyone says is not replaceable, apart from the people who sell the kits to do so. Was a bargain at NZ$20, and now my phone works properly again. Was doing the same as my Fitbit is now. And apparently you can replace Fitbit batteries too, will void warranty if you have one of course, but is doable. Although they lost me at soldering iron, as I’m female and I’ve never used one, and it makes me nervous I would need one for what seemed like it would be simple. iPhone was the hardest repair I’ve ever done by the way, so fiddly, and I accidentally unplugged the on/off switch, and struggled to replug the touch screen. Have also upgraded RAM in my computer (to 1.5gb woohoo that’s nothing now), and hard drives in my PlayStation 4 and TiVo. So I do have some self learnt technical expertise. Have also recently learnt to pull apart a PC and reassemble in my IT course I just started, so I may actually get desperate enough to replace my Fitbit battery. I know people with soldering irons, my brother is a professional welder, and my dad a retired mechanic so I have options. And nothing to lose if Fitbit can’t help me unbrick my device.

You go girl 😊 May ALLAH SWT help you in your endeavours.
I'm thinking of returning it to mom and she can throw it away.. As after charging for 3 consecutive days, the battery icon finally became totally full BUT now it has completely died I guess 🤭🤭 cuz now its even turning On abit, no screen battery icon, no vibration, no fitbit info, no nothing... Alas, bye bye my fitbit... And Thank you very much @petitmiam for responding and giving useful feedback.. 👌👌

Your Charge 2 is how old?
The typical lifespan of these batteries are 3-5 years. 5 if properly maintained, 3 if the user lets sit dead for days at a time, if dead for several months, the battery may never be usable.

🤔I think it's either 5 or more than 5 years old @Rich_Laue.
