Charge 2 is not showing map after my walks

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello,

recently I have noticed that when I sync my exercise that I started and ended from my fitbit (usually walks), it hasn’t shown me a single map since July 15th, despite having used that feature almost every evening to track my dog walks/runs.

I tried deleting the app as I read it helped someone, but didn’t with me.

It still logs the exercise  and all the data (pace and what not, that doesn’t show with auto tracking of active minutes), except showing me the map of my route.

How to fix this?

Thank you,

Brixuk

Hi @Brixuk, welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for taking the time to delete your Fitbit to see if that resolves the not recording map issue. If everything else it's been recorded (as steps, distance, etc.) maybe there is an issue with the GPS signal. Let me ask you this, are there too many tall buildings where you are walking? Or  on the other hand, there are too many trees? I'm asking because those factors affect the GPS signal. In the meantime I'd like you to review the requirements and troubleshooting in this post to fix inconveniences with the connected GPS feature.

I'm having an issue with the map as well. It shows my route when I select Walk as an activity before I start, but not when it's automatically detected as an activity. Should I just start the activity on my watch before walking?

Hey @irinial, it is great to see you around! There are 2 ways for you to track your map. You can use the connected GPS feature (you start the activity on your Charge 2, and also turn on the GPS on your phone as well, and of course you carry on both devices) Or you can use just your phone to track your walk. In both ways you'll get a map. For further information about how those 2 options work, take a look at the following help articles:

- How do I use the Fitbit app to capture GPS data?

- How do I track exercise and activity with my Fitbit device?

Hey @horsegirl13, I hope you are doin' great! If the walk activity doesn't appear on your Charge 2, maybe you haven't select it through your Fitbit account. If you are using the Fitbit app to sync, follow these instructions:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon User-added image
  2. Tap Exercise Shortcuts.
  3. To add a new exercise shortcut, tap the + icon and select an exercise.
  4. To remove an exercise shortcut, swipe left on a shortcut (on Windows 10, tap the trashcan icon).
  5. To reorder an exercise shortcut, press and hold a shortcut, then drag it up or down to change its position.
  6. Sync your device.

Let me know how it goes!

Open App - click the watch at top left - Exercise Shortcuts - you can now add, walking. It wasn't available on iOS until recently. Then on watch you can button to tracking (usually says "Run") then tap until desired exercise - then hold down button to begin. Can also 3D touch (force touch) the iOS Fitbit app and "track exercise" or open app and press "+" then track exercise.

Thanks. Still not getting the map. The phone GPS is working. I'll try once more today.

Still not showing map. Will I lose data if I delete the app and reinstall it?

Thanks for that information @LTRMcrew! If you also have further questions or comments, let me know!

@irinial, if you still not getting the map of your activity, even though after making sure that the GPS is properly working, I'd like to ask you, are you pausing your exercise while doing it? Let me know. 😉

Have a nice day guys!

Not pausing the exercise. I start it on my watch, my position on my Samsung galaxy is always on, and I walk for 30 minutes around town. It doesn't show any map. I've checked in the app and it says that the gps is connected for walk, but the phone is crossed when I start the activity on my watch.

i just tried while just sitting down and the gps shows to be working... When walking outside my phone is in my pocket usually. With the 4G and bluetooth on.

I finally figured this out. Go to your dashboard and scroll to the very bottom. Press the + and select track exercise then press the start button that comes up and when you’re finished exercising press the finish button. Then go to the dashboard screen again and click on the weekly exercise button on the dashboard and you will see your map.

Thank you! this really seems to be working but I'll have to try on my walk later. However, does it mean that I'll use the app and not the watch to track?

Yes, use your Fitbit app on your iPhone to track your exercise and see the map when finished, but also have your Fitbit on your wrist when you walk. You also need to have your location services/GPS on (from your iPhone go to settings, privacy, and location services, scroll down to Fitbit and select "when using the app").

Thanks for your reply @irinial! So you are getting this error on your Charge 2, right?

If so, what you are getting is this:Phone not found (crossed out)—If the phone icon has a line through it, Bluetooth is likely turned off (meaning your tracker is no longer connected to your phone) So I'd like you to take a look at the requirements and troubleshooting stated in this help article: Why isn't GPS working on my Fitbit device?

@Mamakeim, welcome aboard my friend! I appreciate the tips you shared. Those are perfect when you use just the Fitbit app and the MobileRun track specifically, instead of the connected GPS (when you use the Charge 2 as well)

Let me know the outcome!

Thanks everyone for helping! I finally found the solution. I don't need to start the activity on my phone. I just open the activity on the app, it immediately connects the phone with the watch and then I can close the app and start using the watch which is now connected! I'm not sure if I'll have to do it every time. I'll update tomorrow! THANK YOU!

Thanks for the update @irinial, sounds great that this was sorted out. 😉 Simply as that, you just need to start the activity from your Charge 2 itself and as long as you carry on your phone with you, and the Bluetooth and the GPS are turned ON on your phone, it should start tracking your data. Then you sync your tracker and your map and the rest of the info will appear there.

Let me know if you have further questions or comments!

I have also been having the same problem within the past week!! GPS is fine where I am.

My GPS is fine, too. I'll set up to track my walk, and put my phone in my pocket. Half a mile in, I'll take my phone out and pull up the app, and it'll show 0.0 mileage. If I keep the app open, it'll then start registering 0.1, 0.2, etc. quickly. I have taken whole walks without taking my phone out, and it will not register any mileage. If I scroll left on the black tracking screen, the GPS shows exactly where I am on the map, so the GPS works.

It seems like the problem is that when the phone screen shuts off, the app stops tracking from the GPS. It only kicks on and registers when I turn my screen on.
