Charge 2 isn't tracking sleep stages and steps

My Charge 2 is great, but the one I just bought for my dad seems very off. He's worn it for 2 days and it is only counting a few hundred steps per day and it is not registering any sleep stages. It measures his heart rate and the duration of his sleep, but yesterday it said he walked 800 steps and today it said  1,900 steps. He was active both days. I turned his heart monitoring from "auto" to "on" and I reset the tracker, but it still isn't working properly. Suggestions?

First, and easiest, thing to try for most any problem is to try restart 3 times.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Hey @Miscwms, I hope you are doin' great! Woman Happy If your father's Charge 2 isn't tracking all of his steps, I'd like you to make sure that he is wearing it on his non dominant hand and that this option is selected on his Fitbit account. If after that, the tracker still not tracking steps accurate, please try to do a step test accuracy. Now in regards of sleep stages, I'd like you to review if any of the following reasons could be affecting his sleep data:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your tracker from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your tracker higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your tracker to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your tracker’s battery is critically low.
  • In addition, you can try to restart your Charge 2 as @JohnnyRow posted above.

Let me know how it goes!

I appreciate the response. Unfortunately, his tracker still seems faulty. I have been using one for years and know how it's supposed to go. He is wearing it properly on his non dominant hand (which is how it's set up) and I have restarted it multiple times. When I walked around with it, it seemed to be counting steps, but not quite as many as I was taking. It does a few hundred steps a day and then stops. His battery is not depleted. As for sleep, he's wearing it to bed every night and it still measures the duration of his sleep but has never once shown any sleep stages. Just how many times restless, awake, etc. This is extremely frustrating. My dad is very old and starting him on new technology isn't easy. It's made much worse when it's not even working.

Hi there,

Late to the party.... I borrowed a charge 2 for my unwell dad to check his night manoeuvres and set it up for his age. 3 days not a trace of sleep data, so I took it off him and put straight on my wrist and got 3 days in a row of complete sleep data. I then put it back on him....nothing in 2 straight days???

I have a charge 2 as does my entire family. Mine is the only one that doesn't track my sleep pattern.  We researched it and found out that if you have AFIB it won't work. it needs a regular heart rate to detect when you fall asleep. Does he have AFIB?

Hi there,
Sorry he has no issues with Afib. I feel that as his resting heart rate is a little higher than younger folk the FitBit thinks he’s just sitting there.

Best wishes,
Kelvin.
