Charge 2 not recording resting heart rate and missing steps

FitBit Charge 2 stopped recording resting heart rate 1 month ago.  Today Charge 2 deleted steps from both yesterday and today.  A call to FitBit support was unhelpful and did not resolve the issue.

 

I had been planning to purchase a new FitBit, but given the poor performance of the Charge 2 and the lack of customer support, I am reluctant to continue using this device and will likely purchase an Apple Watch or other Fitness tracker unless this issue can be resolved.
