Had my charge2 for a week and it won’t track the deep sleep rem and the stages it to track when I’m sleeping.   What do I do to fix it.

Hey guys! Thanks for stopping by and share your doubts, comments, pictures and opinions! They are very important to us 'cause they help us out to review certain areas of our products and services and see which of them we need to improve so we can offer one of the best fitness services in the market.

I'd like to explain to you that Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns. While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. If we don’t have enough information on the backend to calculate this, we’ll show you your old sleep pattern which doesn’t require heart rate. It appears as though we didn’t have enough information, and as a result showed your old sleep pattern. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you guys  aren't receiving Sleep Stages consistently, as previously mentioned, while you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuates as you transition between the various sleep stages. If we don’t have enough information to calculate this, your old sleep pattern, which doesn’t require heart rate, will be shown instead. It is important to know that HRV data is different than standard heart rate data. So, although you may be seeing steady heart rate data throughout the night, we cannot guarantee you will receive Sleep Stages, also, please note that they can be affected by a combination of your movement during sleep, HRV data, and personal physiology.

If you haven't and you have further questions, I urge you to contact our Support team, they can also assist you with your inquires.

Have a nice day folks!

The problem is imho that your long research didn't know that everyone has no consistant heart rate, that's why you shoul use HRV and moving data.

Fitbit has changed the range of HRV and some with very low or ver high HRV didn't get sleep stages anymore, because data is missing!

Thats why you article concerning missing sleep stages is not correct!

Nobody has consistent hear rate!

20180616_194134.jpg

Here you see data from 39 to 49.

What will happen when your algorithm is only 45 to 48?

39: no data

40: no data

41: no data

etc!

A lot of missing data! Means: no sleep stages!

But not when the heart rate is not consinstend!

Just only because of wrong algorithm!

This problem, no sleep stages is on every Fitbit tracker. Since month when you check the communities!

Each tracker has all data, informed developer in the SDK community!

Where is the data lost?

So hopefully you engineers are correct the algorithm very soon!

It's  so frustrating that nothing happend for month!

I will have a nice day, when my Ionic is complete working!

HeydyFitbit.

Fitbit does not mention any of those caveats in your advertising of these device and their features.

I've now paid good money for two Fitbit devices advertised to provide heart rate and sleep tracking and both devices are grossly inaccurate in both features.

In my experience with three Fitbit devices, they are only accurate in step count and keeping time. Every other feature advertised is inaccurate and/or unreliable.

If you don't mind what is your source for that graph?

It's the clock face "Heart beats" for Ionic!

I was blessed with a detailed sleep graph two night ago. It was a beautiful morning. What did I do? What did I change? Not a single thing. But don’t worry guys, I’m still one of you. Simplified sleep last night, but it was so nice to have a glimpse of what the other side lives like.

Yes! I too had a detailed sleep graph 2 nights ago AND another 2 nights
before that ( with a no detail in between, but for the last 2 nights BACK
to simplified. I received an email once again (we’re going back and forth)
that I don’t have a good enough heart rate to calculate a detailed sleep
log; AND IM STIILL ALIVE! I’ve had problems off and on since I got this
Charge 2 for my BD last July.
So very frustrated!

Hi everybody sorry to hear that you are still having issues with getting Sleep stages. I would like to clarify that the tracker needs to get a constant heart rate measurement. With that information the HRV will be interpreted by the tracker and the server and if enough pertinent information was gathered then sleep stages will show for your sleep log. I can only tell you what you have heard from other members and moderators that you can try wearing your device secure enough and clean the sensor with cotton and some rubbing alcohol so it can better detect your heart rate during the night. This is something the team is always trying to improve so you all can get the information you wish.

@AlvaroFitbit

Where can we see not consistant heart rate?

Nobody of the world has consistat heart rate!

On Ionic we have clock face "heart beat " incl. HRV and the app HR graph.

How should we recognize not consistant heart rate?

If you realy use HRV and moving data. You should have enough data for the sleep stages.

But the algorithm was changed.

I assume to a smaller range.

For example: data from 20 to 90 and your range is from 50 to 70, you will have not so much data! 😉

So I assume, everybody would like to know when that algorithm will be fixed!

No need to explain or link to your article.  You can see here why your article is not correct!

Btw: One 1Hz sampling rate?

I can imagine why here are so much problems!

So when you, I mean Fitbit? is not able to show, where the missing data is, mean where and which data is missing and why, this is hard!

So, where are the cut of the data?

And why?

Concerning SDK community, there is an information that each tracker has all data! The problem is synchronisation (maybe error in the comression) or algorithm for sleep stages because of missing data.

But noone can see it in the dashboard.

Also, no information about the HRV value!!!!

Very frustrating!

I read the other day that Fitbit sales are falling. Better customer service (fixing long time bugs and issues and implementing feature requests) would help with that, I'm sure. But the current practice of not fixing and not implementing must be driving or at least adding to the general exodus from the brand.

I also had sleep stages for Thursday and Friday, but not Saturday. Thought it might be because I tried the old "clean it with rubbing alcohol" on Thursday, even though that suggestion hadn't worked before for me. However, after not getting sleep stages for Saturday night, I tried the rubbing alcohol last night to see if the sleep stages came back, but nope.

I've now bought three FitBit devices. Disappointed with every one. They will accurately track steps and time, but all other "features" are inconsistent, inaccurate, unreliable.  I won't be buying another FitBit device nor will I recommed any FitBit device to family and friends.

I don't have a charge 2, I have a versa, but I have the same issues with sleep stages.

I've tried every thing that everyone here has and get the same random days with sleep stages.  I downloaded my data for the past month from the online dashboard and I noticed that the nights that I get stages there is always numerous "awakenings" vs the old basic sleep graph where it always says I only had 1 "awakening.".   However, my basic graphs always say I was awake or restless for many times through the night.  How that could then be just 1 awakening?  And why do I get sleep stages when there are many awakenings?  Maybe some of you could go do a data download for sleep and see if you have the same issue.  Actually, it seems the number to beat is 5, if I have 5 or more awakenings then I get sleep stages.Screenshot_20180619-202550_Sheets.jpg

I presume the higher "Number of awakenings"data point shows when you get Sleep Stages because the HRV data need to calculate Sleep Stages was available and/or properly interpreted.I don't believe it was the reason that Sleep Stages were calculated; it is a result of Sleep Stages being calculated.

I have had this issue since I got my new Charge 2 about 2 months ago. A few times (maybe 5 or 6)  I have had the also stages. It seems to happen for 2 consecutive nights and then goes back to the basic.

I have worn it on both wrists, inside and out, loose and tight, higher and lower and that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I am very disappointed as this was a major reason for me getting the Charge 2 - it is advertised with this feature.

This topic should not be marked solved. It obviously is not.

It should still be under warranty. I'd return it. I bought mine thru New
Egg. It will be one year end of December. I'm thinking of making a claim with credit card company.

Good luck!

Hi everyone. I would start by clarifying that your heart rate doesn't need to be consistent but that the heart rate reading your tracker gets does need to be consistent. That's the difference I am talking about (not that your body needs to regulate your heart rate but that the reading should be consistent throughout the night). Still make sure your tracker is properly secured (most of you already know how this is done) and that your tracker has enough battery to properly track your heart rate and movement.

And when that doesn't work?

Best Answer

@AlvaroFitbit

I'm so sorry, but your explanation doesn't help.

Battery power is over 40%.

Also at 90% not better.

Ionic has enough contact with my skin.

On Ionic is HR Graph that has everytime data. But not your system and this is still the problem!

Also clock face Heart Beats shows heart rate and HRV. No gap!

Also still no gaps on dashboard or app.

Still no alert that no data comes from sensor!

Still not all sensors activ on Ionic.

Still same problems with sleep stages on all Fitbit tracker!

I have these problems since March.

Before the update I have had sleep stages!

My wife is wearing my Charge 2 very loose and has every night sleep stages.  I assume the hardware is not the problem.

And I tought that Ionic has better electronic components.

I'm not sure!

Nothing happend from Fitbit side.

Only new version number but no bugfixes or correction. 😞

I'm only interested to see information when all user and myself are having correct working trackers!

I don't want to see words like Fitbit appreciated our comments.

I'd like to see problems solved immediately!

If you were a customer who has such problems, what would you do?

Would you accept no correction?

So hopefully one day Fitbit is correcting the algorithm for the sleep stages.

Thank you for an update when this will be done!

Enjoy your day!
