Had my charge2 for a week and it won’t track the deep sleep rem and the stages it to track when I’m sleeping.   What do I do to fix it.

Here! Here! I’ve had a similar experience and will follow your path.

I hear the new Apple watch is supposed to be pretty amazing. When it comes
out I'm ditching the Fitbit and will get the new Apple watch. Perhaps
fairly expensive but i believe it'll be worth it.

Tried all this but the charge 2 still does not track stages of sleep. It started at first to do so then stopped.

My Charge 2 also has stopped doing sleep analysis.  Had been working fine most of the time, but in last couple week has stopped, despite all posted recommendations.  Something is going on that cannot be attributed to user sleep position or placement of tracker on arm.

I dont bother fooling around with trying to get the full report on my sleep. It does show the general break down, with no detail.

The sleep tracking feature is the main reason I purchased the Charge 2 over a year ago. The tracking hasn’t worked in detail for two months now, despite what I do. So I’ve ordered an Oura ring.

I have had a Charge 2 for 18 months. It has worked perfectly ( HR, Exercise, Tracking) EXCEPT for sleep reporting. I did receive detailed reports last year, but for the last few months I've only received basic reporting. I've tried ALL of the suggested tricks with no result.

I read on 1 thread that a low heart rate confounds detailed reports. My resting HR is 46. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I am afraid to update to the Charge 3 which apparently has the same issue for some.

Thx

I have had the same problem for the past two months, and I too have a low resting heart rate. However, for about 1 1/2 years before that, I was getting detailed sleep data, even with a low heart rate. So I don’t know what the problem is, and I’ve tried everything. So instead, I have ordered an Oura ring to track my sleep, which, after research, I think will be superior to the Charge 2.

Thanks. I had the same problem – inability to have sleep stages detected. This has been a disappointment.

Thanks also for the recommendation of the Oura ring.

Are you using the app to tell fitbit when you are starting to sleep? If you do then that is the issue, do not tell the app when you started sleeping.

Hi!

I have discovered a strange solution to this problem. At least it works for me with my Alta and IOS app... 😜

I "rage-deleted" (😝) an entry being sick of sleep stages not working, but then I thought "guess I should add the sleep again just to at least keep track of how many hours I sleep".

Low and behold; as I re-entered the sleep period, the detailed sleep stages magically appeared! 😀💤

I tried this just now even with a sleep period as far back as September 5th, and even that came up with detailed sleep stages when I re-entered it! 👍🏼😄

Since October 4 I have been getting sleep stages every night. It can't be the device (it's the same one) and obviously not the app or everyone's issues would be fixed.

A way back up this post someone said heart issues might be behind the problems. I have been working on reversing any heart problems with a whole food plant based diet for close on 2 years now. It's possible that is repairing damage and the device is now able to accurately sense what it needs to give me the sleep stages. Just a thought.

I really don't think so. I have no heart issues (and yes I KNOW, it has been checked), and still my Fitbit Alta randomly gives just simplified sleep pattern. The workaround I mentioned just before your post works, so obviously the data is recorded, just not displayed properly. 😏😉

The Apple watches do NOT include sleep tracking though you can apparently download apps which will provide it. However, if you charge your watch nightly, it obviously can't be used to track your sleep.

I just simply want my Charge 2 to provide detailed reports as it once did for many months.

Tried your fix, Jippi70. No luck.

I never do that. For 1 1/2 years there were almost no issues—until two months ago when, out of the blue, I started getting simplified sleep stages only.

How did you get in touch with FitBit. Whenever I've tried, all I could find was the FAQs & Articles, or them telling you to go to the Communities. I wish there was a direct email that you could go to in order to ask questions. I'm getting more frustrated as time goes by and am about ready to switch over to another system.

This is really disappointing. As i just bought the Charge 2 purely to track my sleep stages.

I guess ill be returning it now.

Hi everyone. Thank you for your input about sleep stages. The team is working on improving this feature but your comments does help in this regard. Still for newcomers take into consideration that you may not get sleep stages for the following reasons:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

I'll be around!
