Charge 2 not tracking stairs

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Had this for 24 hours and had a charge hr which was perfectly accurate in counting flights of stairs. I've done the same amount (20) but it is only showing 3. Each flight is greater than 10 feet. How do I fix this?

I hate this issue. With my hr it would register my stairs, now nothing. I live in a small house, the ceilings are a bit over 7 ft. Even if I run from my cellar to the second floor there is still a pause as I turn the corner. It would be nice to adjust the floor sensitivity. Although it worked once by holding my Fitbit near my ankle and raising it to over my head as I climbed the stairs, but totally not realistic for all the time. Disappointing.

When it comes to counting floors,  it is the time it takes to as end thr 10 feet. As long as the "pause" doesn't make the total time greater than the maximum time allowed,  the floors should be added.

Another requirement is that your trackwr needs to see that yoir walking, gliding the arm with the Fitbit yp the railung may prent the stairs from being detecyed and no floors.

Somethingto try, look at the step count at the bottom of the stairs, walk up the stairs, check the step count at the top. How many steps di the tracker record?

I have used Fitbit one for years for hiking. loved the stair feature because it was fairly accurate in terms of how much elevation we had done. just got the charge 2 to test it out and unfortunately it is not the same. did a 3000 foot climb the other day and the one would have showed 300 floors, but there charge only showed 130. I guess this new "pause floor cancelling" algorithm has ruined its usage for me. will try the suggested resets and probably try to return it if it doesn't work and go back to one.

Oh, I climb cell towers for a living. I normally climb about 3 towers every day each one of them averaging 200-300 feet. When I climb, I climb non stop for about 80-100 feet, rest and do it again. My charger 2 counts the entire climb as 3 floors. Some day I climb up to 900 feet, counts me at about 12 floors. 900 feet should register about 80-90 floors climbed. This is very discouraging.  Does anyone have any insight to this issue? Thank you,

I am brand new to Fitbit, got my Charge 2 about a month ago.  Yesterday, I noticed it didn't track my stairs.  I climb the same stairs each day at work, but yesterday didn't register.  Climbed down and up stairs at home today, and it hasn't registered. I'm trying the recharge now, but don't expect it to help, based on everyone else's comments.  Is there any fix for this?

I received my Fitbit Charge 2 on 11th June 2017. All worked well for weeks. Three days ago, my Charge 2 falsely logged 64 floors instead of my usual 20+. I put it down to a rapid increase in barometric pressure. The following 2 days returned to normal. Today, it got to 5 floors and then stopped counting. The device has been restarted three times in quick succession, it has been re-paired with my phone, I've reinstalled the app, and ensured the hole at the top on the rear of the device is free from obstruction. It has also recently started failing to connect to GPS. 90% of the time, it will not GPS connect to the phone without intervention despite it just having synched. All of these issues have begun after the recent firmware upgrade. Is this just a coincidence or do you have to replace my Fitbit?

I broke my foot and have to hop up the steps at work. Have noticed that Fit bit Charge 2 does not count that. Is it because I go up stairs too slow?

Maybe, it might also because your arm is not moving in a way that steps are counted. If fitbit doesnt think your walking it wont look for floors.

How many steps did fitbit count when walking up the stairs?

I think you might be missing the point that my Fitbit has previously counted floors flawlessly. Following its complete fail, and its failure to respond to any of the Fitbit prescribed solutions, it has now resumed counting floors again!

I got mine for Christmas and I started taking the stairs at work. It use to calculate that I did 22 sets of stairs. Well lately it’ll read anywhere from 0-4 with me doing the same amount of stairs. The building is 4 stories I go up and down them about 4-5 times a day. I really hope my Fitbit isn’t broken already.

I am having this problem as well.  May need instructions for return and replacement.  Received Charge 2 for Christmas, and it seemed to record stairs ok for a while, although on some days the count was short, but recently it has stopped.  Today I’ve counted 9 flights actually climbed, and it’s recorded only 1.  One flight in our home is 11 stairs, the other is 14 stairs.  When the device is working, it seems to record both flights accurately — but when it’s not, it records neither.

I’ve restarted it 3X, checked the little hole, ensured that I’m not following a bannister with my Fitbit hand, and so on.  Nothing seems to work.  For what it’s worth, tapping on the screen doesn’t work consistently either.

I’d appreciate any help you can offer.  Thanks.

I've had the same problem since I got the Charge 2 eighteen months ago. It only registers stairs accurately if I wave my arm up when I reach the top of the stairs. However, when I play golf, it shows dozens of stairs climbed; obviously, it can't tell the difference between stairs and a golf swing.

If your home doesn't have 10 foot ceilings then yes you may have to raise the arm so that the RT racket has done a 5 foot rise .

As for your swing, in theory, you would need to raise your arm 10 feet before a swing will give a floor.

However the swing of your arm through the air could possibly cause this if the tracker is on the leeward side..

Behind a moving object leeward side there is an area with low pressure. and pfitbitI looks at air pressure to determine changes in altitude.

This is mularkey. My Charge 2 hasn't counted stairs since last year new out of the box. WTF?

@DerrickS wrote:

@mewsmama @Opheliav5 Your Charge 2 will track a floor climbed each time it detects continuous motion combined with an elevation increase of 10 feet.

If you pause mid-flight of stairs or walk down stairs, your Charge 2 will not count a floor climbed. Click here for more information about how floors are counted.

If the above criteria is met and your Charge 2 is still not counting floors climbed, I would then recommend restarting your Charge 2. Click here for instructions.

Hope this helps!

Won’t track stairs only a quarter of a time even though I don’t pause in the stairs

Mine will only track stairs if I remember to swing my arm up above shoulder height as I climb them. I have given up bothering. When I play golf, it seems to count every swing as if I were climbing the stairs. I now use my Charge 2 to tell the time, check the distance walked when I play golf and check my pulse rate occasionally. I take it off at night because otherwise it lights up every time I turn over.

Then it thinks I have slept for far longer than I actually have. It looks good on the wrist, though, especially with the change of straps to suit my mood.

As a follow-up, my problems with tracking stairs were completely resolved.
There are steps outlined on the support site, and once I’d followed each
step without fixing the issue I called in to Support. Once they understood
that I’d done everything sugggested in their knowledge base a couple of
times, they quickly replaced the Charge 2. The new one tracks stairs just
fine.
