Just before going to bed, I synced my Fitbit Charge 2 with the app and all was correct. It showed I had done 6000 steps that day. I left my Fitbit on the side and went to bed. This morning I had an email congratulating me on earning my 40,000 steps in a day badge. I looked at the app and it now shows I had done over 40,000 steps yesterday. Looking at the step count, it shows I did 38,518 steps between 23:45 and 12:00. In those 15 minutes I was in bed and my Fitbit was on the side. How on earth has that happened?

@Jo2K It's great to have you here!
Let me help you with this. Could you share a screenshot of the activities area on your account? Have you manually logged any activities on your account? Was the tracker near any electric device that could cause vibrations like an AC unit, fan or even a computer? Your device will detect the movement on your arm and translate that movement into steps. There are situations in which your arm may move but you won't be actually walking. For example, this may happen when you are playing the drums, burping a baby or clapping. It can also happen while driving or could be the vibration/movement produce by an external factor. You can negate these steps by logging a driving activity. You can try wearing your device on your non-dominant hand but select that hand as dominant on the device’s settings to make it less sensitive to movement.
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your reply. I can't seem to share screenshots from Fitbit app.
I haven't manually logged any activities and when my Fitbit Charge 2 detected 38,158 steps in 15 minutes, it was on my bedside table next to my alarm clock. I place it there every night and this has never happened before. Yesterday, the app would not sync with my Fitbit and I had to delete my Fitbit from the app before setting it up again.
