Charge 3 blank screen and it only vibrates

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a charge 3 and I can’t get it to do anything but vibrate when I push the button on the side of it. I plugged it up last night and it showed a smiley face.

Got it off the charger this morning and it continues to have a black screen but still vibrates when I push the side button. It used to flash a light on the underside when I would take it off. Now it doesn’t even do that ?

Looks like I just got bit by this bug also. 😡 This Charge 3 I have is a replacement for one that went bad during warranty. Back in March it started having issues with the missing lines across the screen. Many reported the same issue started to occur about the same time. I posted on Community. Took weeks for Fitbit to reply that they would send it to customer support. Took more weeks before customer support replied. Tried all the reboots, nothing helped. Still usable, but difficult to read. This morning I saw it did not track my sleep at all. I noticed there was no green light underneath. I rebooted and the green light came back. This evening I checked the green light and it was off again. Then I realized the screen was entirely blank. I know it's not dead as it was 57% charged earlier today. Sometimes it will vibrate when I hold in the button. Tried doing all the long resets and such with it in the charger. No dice. I decided to go with Fitbit after trying others because I thought they were quality and had more features. Every Fitbit I've ever owned has been replaced under warrant or offered a discount to upgrade due still being under warranty and having failed. This is the last one. Goodbye Fitbit.

OMG, why is this what has happened now. It came back about 3 hours after I made my original post. Then lines showed up and then it wasn't tracking. sleep. Then it went black and the green light was on and would vibrate still. Now it's completely dead and not doing anything.

Smart move ! IMO Fitbits are garbage and should be taken off the market ! I
receive multiple emails a day from pissed off people with the same issues !

Same. It’s still tracking and updating through the app, so I’m using it
until my new brand of tracker arrives. No more Fitbit for me!

Wow!  This is my exact problem. I messed with it all day. What has happened? Why has FitBit made my Charge 3 useless now? The recent app update makes it so the FitBit goes black when it can’t seem to connect to Bluetooth. When it’s out of range of my phone or I’m using another Bluetooth connection. I’ve restarted the fitbit. Hard reset the Fitbit. Rebooted the phone. Forgot and reestablished pairing. Removed and Reinstalled the app, went to factory settings on the FitBit, changed clock faces... none of it works. Only making sure the phone and FitBit are close to each other AND the phone is only Bluetooth connected to FitBit. I didn’t want a watch but if my Charge 3 is useless then I won’t buy another FitBit. I’ve only had this 5 months.

Reading this thread makes it seem that FitBit won’t be helping me with this.

So frustrating. I won’t buy another FitBit if they won’t help.

Put in an actual support ticket. Your's should still be under warranty and they'll replace it.

https://help.fitbit.com/?l=en_US&cu=1&fs=ContactUs

Try that first, then if you can't get someone online, visit their facebook page and message them there. This is a community support forum... not the best place to get actual help from the folks at fitbit.

My charge 3 has a black screen and vibrates only. Got it back in april and this is the first issue I have had with it. It wont sync with the app and isnt tracking. Only vibrates when I press the button. I outnitnon the charger and pressed the button to try and reboot it as suggested and nothing. I also attempted to change the clock face from the fitbit app but couldn't because it wont sync to the app. I really like my Fitbit especially because I walk so much at work. I normally log over 10,000 steps at work so it really makes me feel confident. Even subscribed to premium just to get more out of my fitbit and i really would hate to have to quit using it. Can someone please help me with this issue.

The same thing happened to me. It seemed to be triggered by a recent app update that is constantly checking Bluetooth connection and when there was a phone Bluetooth conflict (bt in use by another device on phone) or out of range the screen was black. Nevertheless, I contacted support. They had me try ‘all their standard troubleshooting steps’ that I did before contacting them. Either way, they had me send it to them for a warranty replacement. They weren’t the most informative. They said when they receive it, they’ll contact me.  The tracking shows it will be delivered to them today.   I’ll see what happens here in the next day or two.  I also purchased the premium membership. I can tell you if I have to get another device because they don’t send mine back working, I likely won’t be choosing FitBit.  What they did with the app change was ridiculous and seemed to cause a lot of issues but they are standing behind it dealing with these one at a time.  Not a smart customer service move if you ask me.

I ended up calling the customer service line - mine is over a year old so
all they could was give me $25 off a replacement. I ordered a different
brand.

My 9 month Charge 3 is constantly buzzing and is frozen the Smiley Face screen when plugged into the charging cable. Even though I align the Fitbit correctly on the charging port, it still doesn’t show a battery percentage. I can’t even press the side button to reset it!

When I take it off the charger, it will continue to smile at me. Once in a while it will buzz and go back and forth from the main clock face to the notifications and screen wake widget. (It won’t let me press the side button when off the charger to reset it either..)

Yesterday, it was perfectly fine and working properly! Now it’s having a seizure and can’t stop. (As I can’t reset it no matter how I try) I noticed this morning that my Fitbit wasn’t recording my heart rate, and that’s where the problems began as the green light was off for some reason and has been off ever since. (Even though I never turned off my heart rate?)

He most frustrating thing about this is that my phone can’t sync with my Fitbit. (It says that it is “looking” for it even though I am sitting here watching it go berserk.)

I’ve visited countless forms, and tried multitudes of tips from wiping the connectors with alcohol wipes to charge it, plugging in my usb into my computer, resetting, changing the clock face, leaving it alone for 2 hours to “charge” (it never shows the battery), ect.

No matter what I do... it won’t stop!

Right now it just changed into something new. Now a white line is displayed across the screen! Hopefully that means it’s syncing or updating finally?

Hopefully all will be well soon. Does anyone have any more ideas of what to do? I really hope this isn’t a lost cause!

Sounds like the same symptoms @Lauren001 that mine exhibited.

this is a long reply. I’ve put in a lot of information that I learned

a few things you can try....  (order is important here)

in charger connected to computer not power outlet..  press hold button until you get smile (line means it’s trying to process an update, but it won’t advance from that when it’s been only black and vibrating). If you get line. Press and hold again until smile

then turn off Bluetooth tooth on your Phone.

Uninstall Fitbit app

Reboot your phone (not just sleep/wake)

Turn Bluetooth back on on the phone, make sure phone is next to FitBit (still on charger).

Make sure no other Bluetooth devices are trying to connect with phone.

reinstall Fitbit app and logon to account in app

if app wants to pair, confirm yes

make sure you if you single press button on FitBit you feel fibration

go back to app. Pull down see if it completes sync.

go to profile and Charge 3.

try to change the face. Pick one you haven’t used before. Select install

wait

meanwhile look at Fitbit. See if white line is progressing

be patient wait

wait until app shows white line fully progressed on selected face

If you get an app popup that it can’t connect wait. Let it disappear on its own. Don’t press anything. It may do this multiple times

even the face should install and if it did see if it displays now

if it didn’t work then repeat all steps until it does (all except app uninstall and reinstall. Only need to do that once to clear out previous versions /app update history)

if it does work this is only a temporary fix. It seems to beak again when fitbit and phone are out of range of each other or another Bluetooth device is using the phone

if it breaks again repeat everything except the app uninstall reinstall

for me I got tired of fixing. I contacted support. It was annoying to be patient while they wanted me to try many of the same steps. But it wasn’t the fault of that person so I obliged. They determine it was still under warranty and had me send it back.  I’m in limbo now waiting for contact or a returned device. I contacted again and had them update the ticket to expedite. I’m still waiting

if your still under warranty, you can try going down the support path and see what happens. The worst case is no worse than you are and maybe you’ll get a replaced device eventually

if your not under warranty then don’t waste your time with support. Consider it a lost cause and consider a new device.

I loved my Fitbit. I’m not impressed with how they are handling this problem and I’m not impressed with their customer service at all. I’m highly disappointed and contemplating other options while I am waiting for word on my device. None of those options involve FitBit

This is exactly what happened to my Charge2. I tried the steps and now I can see the screen but it rotates between the clock face and notification setting screen. Then it goes to and update line and won’t do anything unless I reset it and it starts they cycle again. Help please!!

Hi @MarreFitbit ,

I have the exact same issue (mine is vibrating constantly while I keep the button pressed). Before this it stopped syncing / wouldn't connect anymore, so I went through all the steps in that section too, ended up resetting it. Could you please open a ticket for me as well?

Thank you!

I'm having the same issue

I have had the exact issue for a little over a month.  With a 103complaints on this thread I'm sure FiBit knows there is an issue but doesn't seem concerned.  The only thing they offered me was 30% off another FitBit which is the same thing they did with the Alta issue so I upgraded to the Charge 3 now it has an issue.  We pay to much for these thing to last only until the warranty expires
