Hi @Annamarie88 this is something a Fitbit Moderator posted to another member with the same problem.
"Please make sure that the Charge 3 is not set to Sleep Mode. Take into consideration that when Sleep Mode is activated, the screen's brightness is set to dim.
If this is the case, please disable the Sleep mode. You can do this on the quick settings on your Charge 3 screen. Also, make sure to set the correct Brightness Setting, this can be found in the Setting App on your Charge 3. For more information about how to navigate your Fitbit device, please click here.
Lastly, perform a restart by following the steps in this help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?"

Remove your old Charge 3 from the Bluetooth settings on your phone.
Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use.
Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
Setup your Charge 3.
