I have been using my Charge 3 for about a month. Two days ago I noticed that while my steps were being accumulated, miles were not. I ended the day with 19,625 steps but only 2.79 miles. That many steps should have equated to approximately 9 miles.
The next day miles were being accumulated in the expected ratio to steps. While I'm glad that my Charge 3 seems to be working properly again, I'm wondering why it failed, whether it will do it again and how do I get my Charge 3 to correct for the missing miles?

Welcome to the Forums, @WalkRun.
It's great to hear that your Charge 3 is working now. Regarding your question, we are not sure what might have caused this discrepancy issue, but we would expect this to be a one glitch and I would ask you to keep an eye on your tracker, and in case this happens again, please let me know and I will be glad to further investigate.
In the meantime, you can check the help article: How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?.
Let me know if you need anything else. 🙂

My FitBit Charge 3 just started doing this... for me, today, I am currently at 27000 steps and 4.24 miles. My treadmill says closer to 9+ miles which does not count time doing things OTHER than treadmill.
Anyway... mine started when I tried to "fix" the fact that the FitBit was actually logging MORE distance than my treadmill.
I turned off GPS, calculated the steps per mile (using the treadmill distance and FitBit steps), so by calculation, 2686 steps per mile and 63360 inches per mile, 63360/2686= 23.58 inch stride (walking 3mph).
I manually set that, synced the Fitbit, phone app and website... and it is still recording the wrong mileage - less than half what it should be. It has been like this for 2 days now, which is a pain because I am using my FitBit to track mileage for a fitness challenge.,
