Charge 3-distance information inaccurate

I have tried both settings: the standard which should calculate the stride length based on the height - it is wrong and massively overestimates walked distance. Then I tried to set my own data and it should be very simple: you walk a know distance, check how many steps you did, divide distances by steps and you get the stride length. I set it. And yet Fitbit still massively overestimates the distance. Now,  what I do not get is: how can it be so difficult to multiply the stride length set in the app by the steps so as to get a better estimate of the walked distance? Thanks

Welcome to the Community, @Lørenzø.

Thanks for the information provided. Fitbit devices calculate distance based on the device’s accelerometer data and stride length setting.

Default stride length is based on your height and gender. If available, Fitbit devices use GPS data to calculate more precise distances. When you sync your device, our algorithm interprets the data from the device, and you see your distance traveled in the Fitbit app.

Note that when you track an exercise with GPS, both GPS and accelerometer data are used to calculate the distance shown in the Fitbit app. For more information about accuracy, check the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?.

Have a good day!

Hello,

Problem is: I almost never use the gps, because I do always have the mobile
with me to sync it.

Hence my question again: if I can calculate my stride length by dividing a
known walked distance by the number of step and input that number into the
Fitbit settings, I struggle to understand what prevents the Fitbit app / SW
- once synced with the new settings - from multiplying the no of steps by
my stride length, so to get a closer / better estimated walked distance. I
am not talking about few hundred meters: Fitbit overstimates the distance
by few kms - so a 30-40% error. A bit too much for such a simple
calculation.

Thank you

Thanks for your response @Lørenzø.

To try to resolve the issue I would recommend restarting your Fitbit device by following these instructions.

In addition, you can set up your Tracker as a replacement device:

  1. Tap the Today tab, and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Set Up a Device.
  3. Choose your device and follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

Whether this doesn't help, please let me know if you are you experiencing the same problem when tracking your runs?

See you around.
