I have had a Fitbit Charge, Charge 2 and now a Charge 3 since right after Thanksgiving. It was working fine until the update that recently released. Now, it has started freezing randomly. I tap the face and nothing happens, this can last several seconds or several minutes. When it comes back, I have often lost the 250 steps for that hour on my app (iOS version). When I go back to enter (log) them manually, it messes up my entire count for the day.
Yesterday, the Charge 3 notified me twice that I had hit 10,000 steps about an hour or so apart! I have tried all the recommended fixes I've read here in the forum. Resetting my Fitbit, removing and pairing from my iPhone, etc. I have never had this with any of the other Charge versions and wonder what is happening. Please let me know what the next steps should be, maybe a replacement? I don't know, but please don't offer the standard "canned" reply. Thanks.

My charge 3 also freezes up, frustrating as I really count on my steps each day

Just to update, I was given a replacement charge 3. It died a week ago. The versa I got my husband died a couple months before that. He got a Garmin Fenix and I got an Apple Watch. The fitbits are where they belong - the trash.

I am on a replacement which has the same problem as the previous one - it gets stuck and the only way to have it come back is by plugging it in. Once it is back up again, with time off and likely stopped when it got stuck, I can see that the battery is still almost full. I have reset the device multiple times according to the recommendations by their service team, with no success. The fixes I have tried: (1) reset it, (2) I re-installed the app on my iPhone, (3) I have gotten a new iPhone, (4) turning off the app on my iPhone, which I can only do for a limited time since I need the App to re-set the time after the fitbit has frozen, (5) received a replacement that has the same problem. In short, nothing helps. On average, the device gets stuck every 1 - 2 days. The reason why I have been putting up with it for such a long time, is that my husband has given me a number of beautiful - and expensive - wrist bands that I can only use with this particular fitbit model. There are way cheaper tracker-watches out there that I dare say cannot be worse, but they don't fit those beautiful wrist bands. After messing with it for 2+ years, I am finally ready to give up.

I have had at least two different iphone models, neither one an XS.
